Remember when....

A blast from the WAY past.....I remember when 3.0 was about to turn into Pro Audio and I was thinking to myself, 'this MIDI sequencing software would be awesome and mystifying if they could add real, honest-to-goodness multi-track audio! I'm so glad cakewalk picked up on my thoughts! :P.....Dig the simple 'number in a square' for adjusting pan LOL...My pc could not keep up with more than about 4 tracks playing simulataneously in the versions immediately after or so, so I remember having to archive constantly.

That’s one really good looking GUI. 👍🏼

The one thing that I liked more than anything else maybe, was double clicking an audio track to bring up 'audio editor', rather than the later double click for audio looping/chopper thing, which to this day I never figured out and seemed infinitely less useful than that uber cool audio editor...I guess they figured you could just resize the track from the track view to tweak the audio, but I never did like the change after that.

That was one of the first things about SONAR that took me by surprise. A loop construction windows instead of an audio editor.

Back then, and for quite a while, I also felt like Cakewalk were slowly but surely implementing all the right features. Seeing those old Pro Audio screen captures really makes me feel nostalgic.

Of course, sometimes it felt like they were lagging behind others - especially because they made it a point NOT to just adopt Steinberg's technologies but to re-invent the wheel, so that input monitoring, effect automation and virtual instruments only happened with Sonar. But still... I can remember how excited I was when Sonar came out. Not everything was perfect but that was a giant leap and I trusted Cakewalk to keep on bringing terrific features in an awesome DAW.

And for me that remained through until I jumped ship, after 8.5.

I felt quite sad last night when I logged into my account to download all my products - it made everything a lot more real.

I loved the console view in Pro Audio. It was cool looking.
