Disc fir Registered Cakewalk users
If a car manufacturer discontinues a model, owners can still use their car and get spares. It should be like wise with Cakewalk Software. Gibson may have ceased development of Cakewalk software, but users did not sign up to Cakewalk until Cakewalk ceased. Users signed up to use the product until they have had enough of it.
'Parts' may not be available but as a working product Gibson should supply all Cakewalk users with discs until Cakewalk software becomes incompatible with the windows operating system. The same way Gibson could justify their 'life time updates' being for the life of the product through development, users who have paid hundreds for the product should be able to use the product forever and a day. Gibson cannot tell users that because they are no longer developing the product people should cease using it. That would be a breach of contract.
If Gibson took down the servers to Cakewalk, they should supply users with disc so that users can continue to use the product. They are obligated to allow people who purchased the product to continue until it is no longer feasible by a separate party. If Gibson make the current softare incompatible with current operating systems and other software, they are in breach of their contract.
Gibson have to look at making sure that they are not in breach of contract and support all Cakewalk users and make sure that it will work.
