Has anyone installed the new W10 update?

I'm interested to know if anyone took the risk of installing the new W10 update and tried out Sonar for functionality.
This could be a big test for future proofing of the DAW going forward.

Yes, It's fine. You should always make sure you create a restore point first so that if anything breaks you can roll back while you find a way to fix it.

Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

Yes I have the fall Creator update installed. The only issues I've had is that re-enabled HD Audio which I had disabled in Device Manager. I knew it did this so 2 mouse clicks later problem solved. It also resets the latency buffer on my interface which I also knew it did and fixed as well with 2 mouse clicks. other than that everything is fine, it feels more like a service pack upgrade form the XP days than anything else.

Yes, no problems with Sonar except the usual AD2 thing.

I've updated four of our five computers with it. The only problem was on my music system, where Control Panel and Apps & Features were empty afterwards. I ran SFC and restarted, and now it's fine.

Except that I have thought my graphic card is dead (I hit "famous" monitor color bit depth bug which makes the screen black at the early stage of booting...), I have no problem

Re: Has anyone installed the new W10 update? 2017/12/11 22:39:56 (permalink)
I had the Creator update done last week (12-5-17). I was running the latest Platinum. I did the AD2 stuff fixes, no problems there.
By last Friday I thought I was good to go, I backed up all of my SSDs for Win 7 and Win 10. The only thing that changed was Sonar started locking up after a few takes in the comping lanes. So I rolled back (all of my machines)
to the previous version of Sonar and re-backed up my SSDs.
I`m not so sure that the "last Sonar" edition was the keeper I wanted for my backup drives.
This week is going much better. My Win 10 and Win 7 (intel) machines and my 2 other AMD (machines) appear to be working flawlessly. I hope I can keep my favorite DAW in working order for years to come.
If there is an update from MS, I do have backed up drives to go back to if needed.
( BTW: my restore point Win 10 made was over 25gig, UGH) MY SSDs vary in size, so I had to be a little careful.

Do yourself a BIG favor, get some backup drive tools and save your current Windows and Sonar configurations externally. In the last 3 years, twice I had to refer to them (power supply died, Video card was junk, etc.)

 I still love our Sonar,

I did the updates on both my machines, and had to uninstall/reinstall my audio drivers to smooth playback on my desktop. And I had to reauthorize addictive drums because the computer ID changed. I don't know why MS does that... anyway, all good.

No problems here. Just the AD2 prob. Using a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 and everything OK.

Mine has failed - and at least one other person has had the same issue. 2017/12/12 22:03:33 (permalink)
Mine updated this morning. I hadn't started Sonar for a while but now it will not launch and gets an error complaining about msvcp140.dll not being compatible with windows. I know the file is not corrupt because it is the same as the one on my other computer.

I also changed my graphics card today (and I'm not changing back). I thought that might have been the root cause until I read someone's post in another forum with the same problem.

It messed up my 24/96 drivers I lost the ability to change the sample rate.

I have had this before but this time a repair did not work I had to uninstall and reinstall 6.0.8 now everything is alright.

it will not launch and gets an error complaining about msvcp140.dll

That's caused by a glitch in your C++ 2013 redistributable package. Just go Microsoft's website and download the latest version. It will give an option for repair on install, choose that for both the 32 and 64 bit versions, reboot and you should be fine.

W10 reconfigured the drivers for a Zoom interface automatically, so I didn't have to reinstall them. So far, so good.

I'm still on 1607 but it will be inevitable if you want internet connection.

Here's what MS says about updates:
'Windows 10 Version 1507 and Version 1511 are currently at "end of service"... Microsoft recommends that you update the system to the latest Windows version, Windows 10 Version 1709... Windows 10 version 1607 is not yet at "end of service." However, it must be updated to the latest versions of Windows 10 to ensure protection from the latest security threats.'

1703 is the 1st Creators Update.
1709 is the 2nd.

Not sure if this is entirely on topic, but I had a W10 update run for at least an hour last night. Now, I am having an issue where audio from my MAudio Fast Track Pro USB (guitar) is fine until I play the recorded track (along with the rest in the session). After two or three times, the input (stripped of any patches in Sonar) sounds like its being put through a bitcrusher and sounds horrible.

I've unselected the Fast Track, applied, reset Sonar, and reopened. Sometimes this works, but again only for 2 or 3 playbacks. Guitar Rig also won't recognize the Fast Track.

Idk if this issue is the result of the update, but I didn't have the problem before.

The WIN10 updates seem to be fixing problems rather than creating them.

Last update fixed a bouncing problem I was having.

Switching in a couple weeks to an Intel I9, gonna put this CPU in the closet for a spare... :)
