Computers dying all around me.

Last week my Win Home Server11 boot disc died by the drive heads becoming detached. Nothing to recover unfortunately. Then the wireless keyboard on my DAW stopped working and today I’ve got a dreaded blue screen error that I’ve never ever had on this PC.

I’m experiencing a never ending loop of boot, get blue screen with Error. Stop Code: GT_ZERO_AT_SYSTEM_SERVICE

I only get to just login and Windows goes into error mode collecting information and reboots.

Even though it’s set to save restore points on software install and Win updates there’s none to be found.

Without access to the server via its boot disc there’s no access to any of my backups for my DAW and so on in circles I go.

Earlier this year I had a MOBO die on me but luckily a friend was upgrading from the same MOBO so I transplanted his into my case when it became available and reinstalled all the components. Net result, 6 months later I’m back with hardware problems.

I originally built this PC, end of 2011 and been flogging it ever since. I guess the system doesn’t owe me anything but I’m reluctant to spend money on hardware especially as i just dumped a bucket load on Cubase and the Samp X3 special.

I’m just having a rant though I’ll likely be looking for CPU and MOBO recommendations before long. Maybe even now.

Check the hard drive.  If you do a search for that error, the couple of hits I saw all have hard drive as one possible source of the problem.

After 1709 upgrade I had GT_ZERO_AT_SYSTEM_SERVICE almost non stop till I have completely removed and installed again old M-Audio drivers. I also had a big problem with NVidia drivers during the upgrade.

Try to start in safe mode, remove audio/video drivers or at least check the computer does not crash in general.

MOBO, wireless, BSOD... have you already checked that PSU and cooling are ok?

Could be static electricity, which is a problem this time of year.  A tiny zap that you don't even feel can kill electronics in a blink of an eye.

Something very weird. I can’t even get into safe mode. That’s why I’m inclined to think it’s drive related.

JonD: I’m in Australia. Summer here.

Problem worse than first thought. I couldn’t get rid of the error no matter which online formulas I tried and as I can’t access my backups I’ve reinstalled Win 10 from scratch. Now takes more than 15 minutes to boot. System slow to respond then bang. It won’t even post now. MOBO dead.

Looks like a good excuse for a new PC. Spoke with Jim Roseberry 2 days ago and he’s spec’d a new build for me based on an Intel 8700k mated to an ASUS Z370-A MOBO and at least 1X 480 GIG NVMe M.2 SSD. I’ve sourced the components. Waiting till next week before I can pull the trigger.
