How I got Pro Tools First to work on my computer...

I've always had problems with Pro Tools working on my computer. The problem was I was downloading it with the Microsoft Edge browser, which compresses the files and distorts them. Once I tried downloading the program with the Chrome browser, everything worked fine !!!!! So now I have Pro Tools First working fine on my computer !!!! Yay !!!!!

For those that don't know, Pro Tools First is a free program.

    I've got it on my system, but never use it. The only reason that I have it is that that I can never use it :)

    Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

    Hi djwayne How big is the download?

    I have empirical evidence this is true... (Bender told me!)
    Cakewalk by BandLab, Splat and other DAW's

    Monitors = 2 24” Samsung SA450 and 1 20” Dele
    Edirol = Octa-Capture-UA1010, Quad-Capture-UA55, PCR-500,
    Berringer 2 x FBC 1010 Alesis Control Pad KRK monitors

    I downloaded and installed it just fine. It won't work here because PT has stringent interface requirements that my interface doesn't meet. No doubt archaic remains from it's early proprietary days when it required digidesign hardware to operate.

    The problem was I was downloading it with the Microsoft Edge browser, which compresses the files and distorts them.

    This is not true. Microsoft Edge does not "distort" downloads. And data file compression is not the same as audio file compression. The original file can and will be reconstructed perfectly when unpacked, bit for bit. Nothing is lost or "distorted."

    Pro Tools First supports an ASIO-compatible interface, as does the full Pro Tools.

    My information came from the techs at Sweetwater regarding another program. Microsoft Edge did indeed distort the other program. Once I tried downloading with Chrome, everything worked fine. End of story.

    True. And this I have. However, PT requires specific buffer sizes and won't connect if your interface doesn't have them. Until installing PT I had no idea my buffer sizes are a weird bunch of numbers that make no sense. Most any other DAW has no problem with them, but PT is very picky.

    I could buy another interface but there's only one other that has similar features I need.

    To give you more detail....while downloading the EXE files in the Notion program with the Edge browser, the EXE files converted to ordinary files which would NOT load up properly. Once I tried downloading the same EXE files with the Chrome browser, they downloaded and installed properly. The same thing happened with Pro Tools First. Again I say Windows Edge distorts the downloads.

    I've disabled Edge as much as I can and don't use it.
