Sonar For Life Request From Owner

I would like to request that Sonar Platinum For Life owners be sent DVDs/CDs of the final updated version. In that way in the event of a crash or any event which may cause the software to be unable to be restored that we would have the program to reinstall and continue using it as long as we wish. This would seem to be a logical way for us to truly have Sonar Platinum For Life for those of use who paid for it.

Please consider...

Loving Sonar owner!

Consider creating DVDs from the installers in your account or from the Command Center download folder. Backing up  installers for all your software purchases has always been is a good idea.

Second person to ask this. First, There is no need for Optical media to install software. You have the files already in your CCC download folder. Sure you can burn them to a disk, but disks are prone to damage so a very pour choice. A flash drive or the dozens of options we now have are all much better than a DVD. That's technology from 15 years ago. Modern Laptops no longer even come with Optical drives because the majority of people wouldn't know what to do with it.

So in a way Cakewalk has already given you all you need and it will work forever with one pothole. They will need to release a last version with a changed coding that would allow the use of personal serial and activations codes like you have with X3. The currant version has the copy protection built in that only allows ativation once using the offline activation. And you can't even use that code on a different computer. So untill they re program a version of Sonar with a changed activation system, we are faced with no option down the road,, even if it was on a DVD,  to install once there is no longer a Cakewalk server.

Second person to ask this...

I suspect that many users who install via Command Centre wrongly assume that installation of Sonar is only possible if you are online. That's understandable, as CCC is not particularly transparent. There needs to be a sticky reminding people about the downloadable installation files on their "My Products" page.

I know, right! Also I am really astounded at how many folks do not back up the exe files or even know they are on their computer. I started copying my products page into excel ages ago. Works perfectly. Any SS will do.
I have full backups of ALL exe's of every product. Then misc backups of  usually the last 2 updates of each, which is all one really needs. I even have a HD backup in a safety deposit box.  Hah! Talk about OCD.....................
Finally every copy of Sonar going back to CWPA 9. I upgraded everytime but once, think it was the Sonar XL update.
So I have all the rest. Really only care about CWPA 9, X2 & X3 and of course Plat.

Interesting.... Is there a reason why you care about CWA9, other than nostalgia?

I have Sonar 6, but doubt I'll ever install it anywhere again.  I did recently install 8.5 on my "B" machine, as I was fastest with that version, and I'm curious if it will still hold up as a songwriting/sketching tool.

A friend asked me to fix BOTH his kids (in their 20's) laptops which would no longer boot. Both had HD's at 100% both had huge HD's ( 800GB) both had the download folders holding the bulk of the storage. Both kids were unaware that there was even such a thing as a download folder.
Every movie or song they ever downloaded was still there and many with 10 or more versions. To them everything is a download and have no clue what the word LOCAL storage even means.

Nope, no other reason. Just nostalgia! It was the first time I really enjoyed midi and recording, etc.

I asked cakewalk support some time back about installing splat on more than one computer. They said 'fine, we just ask that you only use splat one one computer at a time'.
Is that no longer doable?

I have it on 7 computers, all say Legal. As long as your the only one who uses it you are not breaking the rules. and  why not?   Cubase and Wave Lab can be installed on a zillion machines but only you with your Dongle in hand can use it one machine at a time. In a way,  even though they are not popular, I like the dongle system.. It always works and never complains when I switch between computers. If Sonar used a dongle there would be 100's pages missing from this forum right now.

But then of course along comes a W10 update that caused Wave Lab to tell me I needed to update the e licencer app. It was bogus, Wave Lab still ran no problem but with a nag. That is now long gone because I nuked W10.

My advice is everyone should install Splat on every available household computer as safety backups.

I have to laugh at the suggestion that flash drives are safer than burning to DVD.  Ha.  Pull one out without ejecting it properly one day and you will see.  "New" and "modern" are not the same as "safe" and "reliable".

DVDs get scratched and die.  That is why you put them in a case instead of in your toolbox with the sandpaper.  Lifetime expectancy otherwise is on the order of 100 to 200 years.  Burn the contents of your Command Center download folder to duplicate DVD sets.
