Im going to experiment with the multiband compressor on my bass track...would the compressor be considered my EQ should i just leave the sonar eq in pro channel flat or turned off if im running the multiband comp ?

How about a dynamic EQ instead? Best of both worlds. Here's my favorite: MDynamicEQ from Meldaproduction. It often goes on sale for 50% off.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

a compressor can be used as an eq,
actively bringing down a specific frequency so it does not stick out.

but, you could do the same thing with an EQ.

the thing to do, would be to use both...

first the eq, and get the bass track to be nice and flat, so it's easier to mix...

then add compressor for color, and level control.

    one before the other.
