RESOLVED Where's my Waves folder ?? LOL

I updated my Waves Central yesterday and this morning while opening SPLAT, I was asked where the Waves folder was located.
I still haven't found it! LOL
Where is it? Why am I suddenly being asked this? My Waves worked before ...
Oh yeah, I updated them (I have 6 Waves plugs), too.

Help!

That's why we use installers, so we don't have to the do file management by hand!

FWIW, I found my Waves plugins in c:\program files (x86)\Waves\Plug-Ins V9

e.g. c:\program files (x86)\Waves\Plug-ins V9\Doubler.bundle\Contents\Win64\Doubler.dll

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Yep, that's the default location. I've found Waves doesn't like it when you use custom locations.

I wasn't even thinking about doing a custom location! LOL         AND I was surprised that something had changed and SPLAT needed to know.
I like the KISS path of least resistance....

Thanks for the answers/assistance!

I just got this link from the Facebook Sonar users group and bitflipper ... you've got it.
https://www.waves.com/support/locate-the-waves-plug-ins-folder

RE   These directions
Windows:
  • Quit your host application.
  • Press [Win key]+R, type %appdata% and hit Enter.
A window titled Roaming will show.
In Roaming, locate the folder named “Waves Audio” and move it to the Desktop.
  • Launch your host application with a fresh session. If prompted to locate the Waves Plug-ins Folder, direct to the above location.________________________________________________________________________________
Does that relocate my folder? I don't really want to do that! LOL         or is this a temporary thing?  I suppose I could put it back. Hmmmm

    Anyone?

Thanks Grem. I realized I couldn't uninstall each plug and was wondering how to do that as a group (I've got 6 Waves VSTs).
I'll give that a go and post back.

Yes it's a all or nothing deal with Waves. But give it a shot. I have had funny stuff go on when I upgraded, chased that tail around the pole quite a few times before just breaking down and doing the uninstall/re-install that solved the problem. :)

The request for the Waves folder location is actually an error which comes about when the connection between the plugin location and the plugin cache gets corrupted.

Only way out of it is to uninstall Waves via Programs and Features then:
Press [Win key]+R, type %appdata% and hit Enter. Select the folder Roaming/Waves Audio - delete the Waves Audio Folder then reboot.
Run Waves central and reinstall all your plugins following any instructions as they come up.

Re: Where's my Waves folder ?? LOL 2017/12/18 01:55:11 (permalink)

So, I did those steps and SPLAT still wants to know where to find the folder. It keeps opening Documents. Is that where it should be?
I've tried several things, but still get the Window for "where to look" or whatever. I must be getting asked for each of the 7 Waves Plugs that I have, because it happens over and over.

Just assume I don't know much ...  What folder do I type in and what's supposed to be in it?

Currently in my Waves folder (86x) > Plug-Ins V9 there are
2 ArtistDlls (1 & 2 )
and
2 each of WavesLib_9.6 and 9.91     one of each is Win32.dll and one is Win64.dll

Which seems wrong! Like Win64dlls should be in Programs not x86 Programs

Also I found 1 WaveShell-VST 9.6.dll and 1 WaveShell-VST 9.91.dll , in the VstPlugins folder of x86 Programs   AND those 2 are also in the VstPlugins folder in Programs (ie 64 bit)

Did I put them in the wrong folder or not put all 7 in the right one? LOL
I'm obviously not getting this yet, but expect to soon!
Thanks for all the help.
Michael
 PS
I didn't get this either.
"Launch your host application with a fresh session. If prompted to locate the Waves Plug-ins Folder, direct to the above location."     BUT I don't see what the "above location" is.

Re: Where's my Waves folder ?? LOL 2017/12/18 07:12:09 (permalink)
Mike, are you sure you are using the lastest version of Waces Central? That will also throw curves into the mix.

My next suggestion is to make sure you have the updated WC. Just go to

 https://www.waves.com/downloads/central and get the latest.

Install it.
Then do as mudgel suggests to clear your cache.
and reinstall Waves and see what happens.

If that doesn't work contact Waves support. They are really good about helping out. You may have found some type of bug. You never know. : )

Re: Where's my Waves folder ?? LOL 2017/12/18 15:37:03 (permalink)
Thanks again Grem and Mike.
I do have that latest WC latest update, that is when/why this all started.
Again (and hopefully more clearly), when I open SPLAT it scans my plugs and I get a window asking me to "select Waves 9.6 Plug-Ins folder"
Yet nothing I've tried shows up in the lower window where I choose to select it, regardless of what I type in or point it to. That is my stall point.

Try to reset/rescan your plugins in Sonar. Sonar is still looking for the old plugins and thay are not there anymore.

Re: Where's my Waves folder ?? LOL 2017/12/18 15:57:59 (permalink)
AFAIK, when it comes to Waves plugins, only the WaveShell DLL files are scanned by the DAW (and not the individual Waves plugin DLL files).

I found my 32-bit Wavesshell DLL files here:  c:\program files (x86)\vstplugins and...
my 64-bit Waveshell DLLs here:  c:\program files\vstplugins

These are the only Waves locations I have in Mixcraft's VST preferences, and all 20 or so of my Waves plugins show up and work just fine.

I would just call their tech support. I've had similar issues and they were able to solve them for me fairly quickly and painlessly.

Re: Where's my Waves folder ?? LOL 2017/12/19 01:28:13 (permalink)
Well, thanks guys.

I opened SPLAT and ran the VST scan. I get to the same place either way and obviously I don't know what to do once I get there. This is the window I get regardless and none of the Waves folders seem to be the "proper" "answer.

I've tried everything but the individual dlls. Maybe that's the trick ...... Whatever I click on/put  in the top pulldown, doesn't appear in the lower one, so I get nowhere over and over.

I'll try Waves support

Did you try the reset?

Preferences (make sure Advance is checked) the VST and in the middle you will see the reset button. Hit that and let Sonar rescan everything.

All I can say Mike is that you didn’t follow my instructions to the letter.

It’s just what you have to do. I didn’t discover this because of some special personal gift, I got it from Waves support after getting that error quite a few times. Seems I wasn’t so good at following instructions in running Waves Central. Now that I’m particular about doing it Waves’ way I don’t get that error at all.

Agree with Mike. If you have done what Mike has suggested and you still get the 'look for folder' error, reset/rescan your vst.

Re: Where's my Waves folder ?? LOL 2017/12/19 12:15:16 (permalink)
I did the rescan/reset as I mentioned a couple posts back with no change, but I did not do all the uninstall steps like Yair Gur Lavi just wrote me from Waves;
"

This issue may occur due to some old Waves residues on your system.

I suggest a complete uninstall-reinstall.
First, uninstall:
  1. Launch Central.
  2. Go to Install > Uninstall, check mark both boxes and click Uninstall.
  3. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall Central.
  4. Go to C:\Program Files (x86) and delete the Waves folder.
  5. Press [Win key]+R, type %AppData% and hit Enter.
  6. In the Roaming folder that shows, drag the Waves Audio folder to your desktop.
  7. Press [Win key]+R, type %LocalAppData% and hit Enter. In the window that shows, delete the Waves Audio folder.
  8. Press [Win key]+R, type %ProgramData% and hit Enter. In the window that shows, delete the Waves Audio folder.
  9. Delete any WaveShell files you find in the following locations (if exist):
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3

Now to re-install:
  1. Download and install Central.
  2. Run Central and log in.
  3. Go to Install Products.
  4. On the left column, select Online.
  5. On the middle column, click on My Products and select the products you wish to install.
  6. Click Install on the bottom right."

So, I'll try again! I certainly have more knowledge and understanding than I did a couple days ago. So, thanks for helping. My strengths are musical, and in SPLAT (editing, mixing etc). So improving my PC skills is always worth the learning curve.
I'll post back once I get to go through the steps later today.

A couple.of posts back you said "ran the VST scan" which lead me to believe you did not reset. There is a difference in case you didn't know.

I have had problems with Waves updates and a reset solved it for me.

You're right Grem  I did not reset.
I did however go through the suggested (Waves guy)uninstall reinstall steps and when I opened SPLAT  more than 300 of my VST's were missing!  That was fun! LOL I got pissed off and took a nap. LOL
Once I was more "casual" I opened SPLAT again and all 729 plugs are there but 2 Waves ones showed up as failed to initialize so I disabled them and fed my dogs and cats (2 of each)
So I'll try the reset and see what gives....
