Could Yamaha buy Gibson from Philips

I'm pretty sure that the answer is no BUT given that Gibson Brands seems more interested in the Philips line of business than anything else you have to wonder whether they would give up the guitar business to achieve survival. While I think that Gibson might just consider it I'm not sure that Gibson's guitar business would be a good fit for Yamaha who already have a pretty well established product range. I guess it would give them the prestige brand they have aspired to create over the years though.
 
Would be a definite twist if Cakewalk's Sonar code ended up with Steinberg.

    Actually no.  Its very simple -->  private equity firm buys Gibson Guitars circa 1986.  Over the last 30 years the CEO has changed the structure of Gibson from a guitar company to a holding company while turning Gibson into what the CEO thinks is, "a lifestyle brand," akin to Nike.
     
    Whether or not Henry has been successful in his quest for, "lifestyle brand," is very debatable.  How much of Gibson Brands is actually still devoted to making guitars must be a tiny percent.  I wouldn't be surprised if all Gibson Guitars where now built buy Contractors and just, "branded," Gibson.
     
    Anyways, Phillips does not own Gibson..   So Phillips can not sell Gibson.  Yamaha can not buy Gibson

    too many lasers...
