I get a message that old plugins are missing from my project when opening.

I delete the tracks that have the missing/old plugins yet when I save and open, I still get the message again.

How do I get rid of the remnants of old plugins from my files?  I want to use it as a template but it's slowing down opening times.

Well there should be no reason to delete the tracks, All you need to do is go into all the effect bins and delete any plug ins that will show as being missing by their appearance.
Don't forget to check your busses.

And I find track templates are a better way to make custom projects and I don't even use whole project templates anymore.

It's too late for that.  I just deleted the tracks thinking the ref to effects would be deleted with them.

    What a massive oversight.

If you were hell bent on deleting tracks, the very least you should have done would be to do a "Save As" of your project and not just save over the existing one.

Ya, I open old projects a lot. I'm used to seeing old plug ins are missing. I generally ignor the message and as I work on the project I exchange them as I go. As time goes by plug ins get upgraded and not a months goes by that I haven't move into a new favourite list.  I really have no use for theose old 32 bit ones. I actually like the fact that Sonar tells me there are old missing plug ins.
