Jeff Beck Wired

I was just listening to Sophie, and I was thinking that this guitar record was probably one of the best ever made, if not the best.  But, what made it so great was the musicians on the album.  And the mixing and mastering, and I don't know who did either, but I could guess.
What I concentrated on was the bass and how it was treated.  My question to anyone who has the experience is, what, if any, dynamics plug-ins can help to produce a bass like that?  There And Back features the same awesome bass sound...maybe even better.  Just thought I'd ask,  for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

    Wired.....

    is a very special album.

i was into jeff beck dating back to the 'beck bogart and appice' album, and had gone backwards after i heard that great first album, and listened to everything he had ever done before it.

i've been a really big Beck fan ever since, and a lot of my early guitar style is attributed to a big beck influence.

Wired was special because of the way it crossed the isle, between jazz and rock.
up to that time, there had been jazz rock albums,
but not many rock jazz albums.

    LOL
that's the only way i can think to put it.
makes me want to go listen to it, right now.

Jeff Beck remains the greatest guitarist living or passed; period.
I've been a fan since his Yardbirds days.
    Listen to the compilations "Crossroads" and "Beckology";
Beck was/is always "light years" ahead of the curve.
Sorry to wander off topic, but this is "downstairs"; right?

Greatests are always subjective. I don't want to get into a competition here, especially since I'm not disagreeing with you.

I love Wired, and it's a fantastic sounding album. IMO one of the most impressive things about the mix is its use of reverb. There's a great space around everything, and it's very bright and fresh sounding, almost like being outdoors.

I suspect this is a Fender bass going directly into the board through a good preamp.

Borat agrees with Lynn, but thinks there is also a compressor (like my Markbass Compressore) in the signal path.

Listening to Wired again. Borat happy!

I have no idea how to get the bass sound, but if you like Jeff Beck, I say take a left turn at Wired, and head over to Ronnie Scott's, to hear Jeff play live, it's on a dvd, I saw it.

I like JB Live w/Jan Hammer...I appreciate the referral...I've seen his live stuff, but it just doesn't move me the way his studio material does...like Rough And Ready. I've heard that when Beck sucks, he really sucks, but when he's on, he's on in a big way...I think he could have been a stand-in for Jimmy Page with Zeppelin...Not a doubt in my mind...I love the sound of his Strat.
