Ok, you lost me at "thousands of dollars of hardware" and "Windows 2000". I understand you might have an attachment to some of your old gear, but things do age, depreciate, and eventually fail as time moves along. That's the big picture, but there's no need to get depressed about it. Sonar isn't going to fail overnight.

Personally I'm more worried about Windows 10 updates breaking my UAD-1 or MidiMan 2496 drivers than I am about one of them breaking Sonar.



I think you're spot on here.
 
I've not seen ANY problems with Sonar itself due to Windows upgrades. Pretty much all of the "updates" issues reported on this forum (and ones I've experienced myself over the years) have been driver/hardware related. My recent issues with the 1709 upgrade did manifest themselves in Sonar, but a refresh of my display, network and sound drivers fixed it. Even if you were using another DAW, you'd still get these issues.
 
Also, earlier versions of Sonar have been working for years without issue on newer OS's. I've still got Pro Audio 9 running on one machine. Is there any reason SPLAT would be different?
 
Yes there is a possibility that a Windows library gets updated and breaks something, but Microsoft does do its best to ensure backwards compatibility. If they didn't, there would be an outcry from the hundreds of software houses out there who supply software for Windows.
 
Even if this does happen, it's likely that setting compatibility mode to Windows 7 would probably fix it in any case.
 
Fixing drivers however, is a different story. My 1st gen Focusrite 18i20 and 6i6 are already out of date with updates only coming out for the 2nd gen models. But I managed to get 20 years of use out of my Yamaha DS2416 cards before I finally had to admit defeat, so I'm not going to worry too much.

I just upgraded W10 and had to re-install the Focusrite drivers for my 18i20 2ng gen. no biggie though.

On my laptop, no problems at all, the Soundcraft drivers resisted ans survived the upgrade. I was impressed.

Oh, and btw, SonarPlat still works !

I'm thinking of disconnecting all my computers from the internet and using a tablet or cheap Chromebook for all my internet needs. Transferring files is an inconvenient but viable solution to what has and may happen.
 
 

100% in the future for this grain of sand somehow,due to the very nature of the so called web now,and before.
 
I started late with digital/computers in general,and i'm super amazed how much i've eventually properly found out about,and should have realized this ip,and any machines have been hacked,stuff ripped.
