Customise the meters ?

Is it possible to change the colour of the meters from that silver to say green  ?

Sounds like you are using Mercury theme. Yes, simple to do. Go to Edit/Preferences Menu (or Shift + N), 
Make sure Advanced Option at bottom of Prefs window is selected, then click on Colors, Color Category, Meters, VU low level, click on color button to get the color palette to pop up.  Choose your preferred color, click ok on color palette window, click apply on Prefs window, then close Prefs window.  Meters should reflect color change when audio is next detected during play or recording. Procedure is also explained in the Help/documentation tab found at top of main track view window.
