Sonata no.1a - The Sailing Song

https://youtu.be/CCXjKYLqBwM

Time for a new sonata for anyone interested? Although, it may sound like Progressive Rock to some, because it's written for guitars, vox, piano and synths...drums too, but it also has clarinet and various other sonic devices. Most prog rockers couldn't even read and write music, let alone sonata form in e minor, but staring on D major - so the 7th or the leading tone ;) , which then jumps to a harmonic minor for a minor lift ;).

Enjoy

Violin too lol!

I think very many of them could, and can; Emerson, Wakeman, the Shulman brothers,  Howe, Banks, Hackett, Fripp to name but a few.

Anyway, I listened to the piece Ben. Have no idea what to say about it really, but hey, I listened!

How about 'wow music and art dressed up as philosophy? - wow that's new' lol The piece is about trying to achieve higher levels of consciousness and looking beyond our limitations ;)

Or the technical proficiency to create such a marvelous work is beyond my comprehension :).

Or the sonic nuances of the sounds and the mix blew me away.

Hows that James for a few suggestions? lol.

Wakeman and Emerson probably knew how to read and write music...I'm not sure about Fripp - he did write Song of The Gulls off Islands...my point still stands, none would be able to sit down and write a classical sonata. And mock up every instrument - or almost every instrument in a virtual orchestral score editor and make things sound as real as I have got them IMO.

Well that would be quite some achievement. Are you sure you've posted the right piece?

Back of few months ago I was headlineing
At a great big night club
And they put me up at what they call the Star Suite:
    Now here I am headlineing
At one of the biggest night clubs
In the country and I wake up
At eight o'clock in the morning
In this Star suite all by myself.

Aah that's what I said "Aah".
But I did what I've always done to cheer myself up

    I picked up my guitar

I sat down and wrote me a little song.
Now this is how it feels to be alone
At the top of the hill and trying to figure out why

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way.
I can't wait to look in the mirror

Cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me

I must be a hell of a man.
O Lord it's hard to be humble
But I'm doing the best that I can.

I used to have a girlfriend
But I guess she just couldn't compete
With all of these lovestarved women
Who keep clamouring at my feet.
Well I probably find me another
But I guess they're all in awe of me

Who cares I never get lonesome
Cause I treasure my own company.

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way.
I can't wait to look in the mirror

Cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me

I must be a hell of a man.
O Lord it's hard to be humble
But I'm doing the best that I can.

I guess you can say I'm a loner

A cowboy outlaw tough and proud
    Well
I could have lots of friends if I wanted
But then I wouldn't stand out from the drowd

Some folks say that I'm "egotistical"
Well I don't even know what that means.
I guess it has something to do with the
Way that I fill out my skintight blue jeans.

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way.
I can't wait to look in the mirror

Cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me

I must be a hell of a man.
O Lord it's hard to be humble
We are doing the best that we can.

Humble, I tried that for a number of years...didn't work. The problem isn't arrogance either, it's that most people confuse confidence with arrogance, and that most people have poor intrapersonal intelligence. Or no understanding of themselves, and what makes them who they are :)

I was also having a joke with James.

Aw I miss mac davis!  I listened carefully to this piece, ben.  I don't know what to say!  There's arrogance, confidence, over confidence and narcissism.  The real problem is that these missives are ripe for mis communications, especially when there's a need for nuanced discussions. But really, who has time for that these days.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of watching and listening to this.  That's all that matters to me.
