Sonar update from 8.53 Producer to X1,2,3
I've been reinstalling onto my new pc and so far so good. I have Focusrite and Sonar Producer 8.53 going well. I also own X1, X2 and X3 but have never used them. I now would like to use X3. If all I want is X3, do I need to install X1 or X2. Would I miss content? If I need to install all, here is the sequence as I see it but I am just not quite sure: X1 Producer -->X1 C --> X1 Expanded --> X1d (I can't find knowledge base on expanded?) X2 Producer -->Producer X2a Patch X3 Producer --> a,b,c,d,e where e is cumulative Any help is much appreciated and thanks!

I'm pretty sure all you need is X3e. If something is missing you can do a bare bones of the older versions. Some say you should always go in sequence but so far I've not had an issue. I had Splat installed and then installed 8.5 to get a few of the thing I wanted, Didn't seem to screw up splat. I unchecked everything but the few vst's and Lexicon I wanted. You certainly don't need the core programs if your not going to use them. Somewhere there was a thread with all the versions listed and what came with them... was back in October I think.. Azslow3 or Abacab? scook?

One feature that is missing from X3 is V-Vocal. However it will show up in the menus in X3 provided that an earlier version of Sonar is already installed. With Sonar 8.53 already present you have this covered. I would ignore X1 and X2 for now. If there are any plugins that you need from those versions, you can add them later. It is possible to install individual plugins from the installer without installing the main program. I would start by installing X3 followed by the "e" update. I would install both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions too. Hope this helps.

OK I have edited the above regarding X1. I searched old forum posts and Beagle says his instructions say X1C must be installed prior to X1 expanded. Indeed, in my X1 expanded account there is both X1c and expanded downloads. Odd but I can't find anything on X1 expanded in the knowledge base... So I pretty sure it goes: Sonar producer X1 --> X1C --> X1 Expanded --> X1D I'm pretty sure X1 thru X3 are the way to go so I'll start installing the X1 group tomorrow. Does anyone see anything wrong with the X2 or X3 routes (X3 answered above) above? Thanks!

Thanks! I never thought about the 32 bit versions, I just installed 64 for the Sonar 8.5 Studio and Producer group. I am probably missing out on a few things. Well that was a good point!

I wouldn't bother with 32 bit unless you have older unfinished projects that are 32 bit. Otherwise there is no point. I had had a 32 bit version installed once and kept opening it by accident because the icon is the same. I uninstalled it. I have banished all things 32 bit now. Yes save yourself a lot of time and you could do bare bones 8.5 than install just x3e.

Isn't the sonitus EQ plugin 32bit? I will miss them if they are and I used that on every project...but, I could just get the blue cat audio free pack... I only have two unfinished (but very important to me) projects left and I suspect I'll have to go into safe mode to open them up...

No the Sonitus are 64 bit as I still have them on a lot of stuff too. I would hate to loose them. I have moved on to using the Pro Channel EQ as it's certainly handy and always right there. But I find the Delay and it's tempo matching trick is unbeatable. Don't get me wrong, it does no harm having a 32 bit version if you have old 32 bit projects. But Bit bridge will solve most plug in issues. I open projects that go way back and most times there's a plug in missing but I make a note of this and just use something new and better.

When you open an old project with something missing, will it open like with a dialog boxes saying it is missing or do you have to use safe mode?

Kev999 ... If there are any plugins that you need from those versions, you can add them later. It is possible to install individual plugins from the installer without installing the main program. ...
Great! But how do you do this? Is this also possible for SPLAT, i.e. can I install components from X3?

You run the installer and choose Custom installation. You'll be shown a list of components which you can then select and install separately. Yes, use this method to install components of X1/X2/X3 alongside SPLAT.
SonarPlat/CWbBL, Win 10 Pro, i7 2600K, Asus P8Z68 Deluxe, 16GB DDR3, Radeon HD5450, TC Electronic Impact Twin, Kawai MP11 Piano, Event ALP Monitors, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, Too Many Plugins, My lucky hat.

Thanks JonD for the fast response! Oh understood! This goes the common way with the Custom installation, I just wondered about "...without installing the main program...". But I'll try!

The Advanced Install option does not install the main program unless it is selected from the component list. The component list is presented after selecting the Advanced Install option. The only "plug-in" requiring SONAR actually be installed in V-Vocal. There is an option in the drop down above the component list to perform a "Minimal Installation." This option should be selected if V-Vocal is needed but the full SONAR installation is not.

I am impressed! Another point where CW is in the vanguard of the DAWs. I have never seen such a detailed installer. And I could really install without the program. Thank you a lot scook and JonD!
