How to upgrade to latest SONAR PLATINUM version ?
Because of new jobs, I entered my account to subscribe for the upgrade of my SONAR PLATINUM and I discovered that GIBSON decided to kill Cakewalk. I'm entitled only for 2016 versions, so I want to upgrade to latest 2017 version and work with it, how to do it ?

You should be able to download the newest version you are entitled to on your cakewalk account page.

..but if you need to actually purchase something, pay for the upgrade, it's not possible anymore, AFAIK.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Bad GIBSON, very bad: "business is business" but customers and professionals have a good memory for their future purchases. Anyway, I want to at least upgrade to latest version and work with it, how to do it ?

I would throw caution at buying any version of Sonar that uses the online/server authorization. Not only is it illegal to transfer Cakewalk licenses but if cakewalk turns the servers off, there will be no way to activate it. I don't expect Cakewalk to do that because I do believe they want to do the right thing. However, if Gibson folds and goes bankrupt... they have no personal need to keep the servers up and running. Im sure you know, Gibson owes (I believe) 500 billion to its creditors by June 2018. This is what concerns me the most. I wish the best for both company's. Because I love Sonar and im still using it right now and will continue to use it for a long time at that.

It is a concern alright! $520 million debt of Gibson and repayments have to be met. It is plausible they do go bankrupt. If that means CW will be sold off for peanuts under receivership might be a good thing for users. Or Gibson ends all contracts with CW by closing the shop and concludes business and maybe sell it off for peanuts before they go under. That they are concentrating on consumer electronics is where more money is at and they might begin to be able to pay their debt. More then likely the servers will stay up while CW software is still relevant. If it takes too long and CW is long dormant. It would be irrelevant if the servers are switched off. Logically, it is 2:1 that it will be sold off.

Hope they will sell Cakewalk for peanuts then, instead of letting it die so badly. The "peanuts owner" could somehow continue at least a minimum business.

I think they already have turned off the servers. I had various versions on Steam up through Sonar 2016, and then I didn't renew for 2017, because I'm just a poor hobbyist. Later, in November, when they had the "sale" on the 2018 update preorder, I bought the update as a Christmas present for myself, thinking yay, I could install again in December when I had more time. So I log in in December and see I missed the announcement (and missed the 2-week window to refund the money which is all Steam allows). I install anyway and get a #SteamUI_JoinDialog_KeyRequestFailed_Text error on launch. A buddy who does game development work said that sounded like they couldn't reach Cakewalk's servers to give me a new auth code. Problem is, that's also ruined my ability to even log into my 2016 version, even if I rollback to an earlier Sonar version, and even if install from scratch on another computer that never had it on there (so there's no registry issue). I'm sure people at Cakewalk wanted to do the right thing. But Cakewalk doesn't really exist any more, as far as I can tell. I made an email case #361511 on December 11th that may or may not still be open, but nobody's answered it or my ping later. Certainly they haven't logged into their product support account on Steam in over a month, either. I think all the support people are gone, and if you can still get into your software at all you're luckier than me.

artifex, I am having a similar problem. I tried updating sonar platinum and everything went smoothly intil the end. Then it says it can't register a few dlls. Sonar won't launch either. It says that a file is missing from my computer. api_ms_crt_runtime l1-1.dll. I'm at a loss. It also killed my previous version.

The servers are still active at the cakewalk site only. Those that have appropriate licenses can still update and roll back through the October2016 version

Yes, you have asked this several times. It has been answered each time. The redemption page and activation servers are up.
