Issues with updating Sonar platinum. (Update... fixed with updating computer!!!)

So with the news of cakewalk going away I thought I would make sure I got the latest update that I am entitled to before the servers go away. (whenever that might be)  Using the CCC, I attempted to update sonar platinum.  Everything downloaded and started installing.  At about 99% installation I got errors that certain dlls could not be registered.  These were mainly in c/programs/cakewalk/shared.  Things like auto120, arpeggiator, chord analyzer, etc.  Older midi tools that I really don't need.  So I tried to just ignore them.  The installation completes and CCC tells me that Sonar installation is complete.  It even congratulates me!

However, when I try to launch, it says that is can't because my computer is missing a file:  api_ms_crt_runtime l1-1.dll

I tried uninstalling Sonar from within CCC; deleting files from within CCC by right mouse clicking over the sonar platinum name and select delete files.  I then re-booted and tried re-installing.  Same thing.  I tried rolling back tot he second to last update.  No luck.  Same thing.  Will not launch and same errors on those midi dlls.

Any ideas?  All my audio files are there on my D drive.  Not much use without the program to run the project files.

Please help.

Thanks,

I’d reboot and try again. It worked for me after updating to the Creators version, I didn’t try before. This was a couple weeks ago. No problem.
    Good luck!

I did re-boot, uninstalled and re-installed.  No luck.  What is the creators version?

Sometimes these are C++ 2013 issues. You may have to download and repair those libraries. Google it and you'll get a link to Microsoft's website for links.

    Thanks emwhy,
I'll look into that.  Would running windows update fix it?  i keep the music computer offline and only connect when installing or updating programs.

There has been an issue with W10 update causing dll files to become  0 bytes.
Make note of which dll are corrupted and go find them. Right click and look at the properties. Is it zero?
The fix was to have a back up of these somewhere else and overwrite the corrupted files. Just a long shot.

If you were running any OS other than Win 10, I'd say make sure you're up to date -- but with Win 10, it's kind of a high-wire act.

If you are on Win 10, how far behind with updates are you?

SonarPlat/CWbBL, Win 10 Pro, i7 2600K, Asus P8Z68 Deluxe, 16GB DDR3, Radeon HD5450, TC Electronic Impact Twin, Kawai MP11 Piano, Event ALP Monitors, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, Too Many Plugins, My lucky hat.

I'm on wind 8.1 64 bit.  I have not updated it.  I guess I'll try that.

I found a few of the dlls in question and they were there and similarly sized to the other ones.

I know exactly what your problem is.
You need to install the latest version of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.

    Windows 8.1 X64 Sonar Platinum x64
    Custom built: Asrock z97 1150 - Intel I7 4790k - 16GB corsair DDR3 1600 - PNY SSD 220GB
Focusrite Saffire 18I8 - Mackie Control

I'm running windows update right now.  83 updates are happening right now.  (those are just the important ones).

Is visual C++ Redistributable going to be included in those updates, or will I need to install that by itself afterwards?

    Thanks

It should be but if it isn't (check Control panel/Programs and features).
    It will be listed there.
If its not get it from MS. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
Make sure you grab the correct one (86/64).

Once you've installed the updates reboot and run Windows update again. Keep going until there are no more.

With 8.1 you also need to also check the optional updates.

Yup, on the second round of updates right now.  Are there any optional updates I should steer clear of?

Is a windows 10 upgrade a good idea?

    It's free!
(Don't forget to backup first with something like Acronis Trueimage or macrium reflect ).

Ok!  After about 150 installed updates, both important and optional, Sonar installed correctly and runs correctly.

    HUGE relief!!!

Thanks to everyone who chimed in to help me get this sorted.
