Converting embedded MIDI CC's into automation lanes

I've got a quite a few old songs in MIDI format that have all the automation embedded as CC's within the tracks.

As far as I can remember, they're limited to pan control and volume (using CC 11, as CC 7 on old Roland gear didn't affect the volume of sounds playing, only new ones triggered).

Is there any way to convert this to an automation lane? My main reason for doing this is to use new sounds (probably VSTi's) rather than the original hardware synth.

I guess I can use CAL to strip the CC's out into another track, move them into another DAW, and some how apply them realtime using some loopback MIDI device to get SONAR to record the automation - but this seems like overkill.

Is there an easier way anyone knows of?

Thanks,

Mark.

Thanks for this, but I'm not sure if this helps me.

What I'm wanting to do is:

1. Take a track with a bunch of control changes - in this case a set of CC 7 (volume) that starts at 0 and ends at 127, so it's a fade in.

2. Somehow, paste that MIDI data into the automation lane of an audio track or MIDI track.

To be honest, it might not be a huge issue doing it manually. I can see where these fade-ins/fade-outs happen on the clip, so it's just a matter of drawing an automation curve that matches it.
