XTC - This is Pop

It is now on showtime here in 'Merica.

It is really worth watching if you are an XTC fan, and even if you are not.  Andy Partridge is a hoot.

I really want to see that. Love XTC, and have a little bit of history with them (which I have bored everyone with many times here )

Well...

XTC hail from Swindon, and I went to art college there. The band I was in around 1979/82 rehearsed and recorded in Tudor Studios (long gone). XTC used the same place to rehearse for their 'English Settlement' tour. We found their gear all set up one Sunday afternoon and just thought 'why not?'...they weren't at all happy when they found out

We were on quite good terms with Partridge though and he borrowed my Marshall amp & cab for a Swindon gig when his developed a fault. You can also see it in the 'XTC at The Manor' documentary at one point.

We borrowed his DX7 for a session one time, although he charged us  £10 for that as I recall...

There's still a connection, as the singer in our band was Tim Wilkinson, my life-long friend, who designed both album covers for Tin Spirits, one of Dave Gregory's current bands.

Cool stories...they roast Swindon pretty good in the rockumentary (with love of course)

Wasn't Swindon where the Office was supposed to be situated ?

The Office was set in Slough, but they merged the Swindon branch into it.

I just read something about Colin Moulding and he said he had done a bunch of sessions with Billy Sherwood from Yes and I had a brief thought tangent . . . what if Colin was the new Yes bass player?  Colin playing Heart of the Sunrise on fretless!

It is amazing that XTC haven't done any new music for so long but I always have a couple different albums on my phone and the music is all still as refreshing and fun as when they came out.

I didn't know about that! I saw he's doing some new stuff with ex-XTC drummer Terry Chambers;

Funny, I started listening to XTC when I was 17, now Moulding's singing about mortality and scattering his ashes...

The Terry Chambers stuff is good.  I'm on board for a Colin comeback!

Andy Partridge has had a few recent cameos too.  Some additional gtr and voxs on the new Geoffrey Downes (another odd Yes connection) and Chris Braide project Skyscraper Souls.  Nothing that is noticeably him though.  And he wrote the lyrics for Steven Wilson's title track To The Bone last year (one of the best rock albums of the year IMO).

Partridge is involved with the band 'Pugwash' too, and this song is pure XTC;
