Lost song

I recorded a verse, bridge and chorus in a Sonar 8.5.5 project and saved an mp3 of it as Test 2.
However, the file I was working in was not called Test 2, most likely it was a Template and I have quite a lot of them.
I've almost finished looking through all the projects called Template and I haven't found the song so I need other ways to identify it. I can list all .cwp files by Date Modified and try to find it that way but it won't be a whole lot of help since I don't remember the name the project had.
Is there any way of finding something unique in the Audio folder?

Thanks - rev

    Nice try but no joy.

I have dozens of projects in dozens of folders but I found a .lnk file to the mp3 - that tells me the destination of the mixdown (almost certainly the same folder as the Sonar project) so I should be able to go through all projects done from a certain date forwards and at least know I'm working in the right bucket.

Look by date in the audio folder for a file or files with the same date as the mp3?  But I guess I have to ask "Which audio folder?"  Do you have your SONAR set for storing audio files in the same folder as the project?  If so, I guess you have to find the project to find the audio folder to find the .wavs.

Or maybe you just search for "*.wav" on your audio drive and sort the files by date/time.  Then find the one(s) with the same or similar date/time as the mp3. Then right click to "open file location" and there's your project?

Once again a victim of having a bad file managing system.

The very best habit you can adapt is the minute after you open a template is IMMEDIATELY - SAVE AS
with the copy all audio box checked and put it in a folder pre determine for what the project is about. I have a folder called SONG IDEAS. I have never lost a file or one little tidbit of a song.
Sonar now uses Per project audio folders by default so nobody loses there audio anymore,  but you are using 8.5, Find that option and check it.

That worked! I use a small utility called Search Everything which finds files as you type the name, much faster and more accurate than Windows Search. Using *.wav and the date I was able to find the file. Thanks!

I usually do, that was the first file I've lost in 18 years.

Good man! Glad you found it. I remember the last time I did loose stuff was 8.5 and not understanding the Sonars arse backwards file system. I think that's why the made the pre project folder system default.

I have a great filing system (per project) but I think I'd had too much to drink.

Naturally, the file you lose is a masterpiece... :)

Too true!! Good whiskey makes me sing better, until I listen to the playback when I'm sober!

Glad its still there.  I don't think I've ever played or sang anything worth saving while loaded, but it would be an easy way for me lose my files.  Now writing is another story . . .    I think.
