XXLN Studio Grand Free

https://www.jrrshop.com/xln-audio-studio-grand-free

I posted in deals,
But I was wondering if anyone has this and if it's better than True Piano's Amber?
I really like Air's Mini Grand but it keeps randomly changing patches and the reverb goes full. I'm in a conversation with the guy from Air and seems I'm the only one with the issue. Will try a re install I guess.

This is only personal opinion only because this sort of thing comes right down to individual taste.  I got the XLN piano free as part of a Focusrite purchase and yes I like it and it is also very generous of XLN to do this.

But I still prefer Waves Grand Rhapsody more though.  It was certainly great at $29 at the time but it is still only $49 which is not a bad outlay either for such a beautiful sounding piano.  I have compared these two and I can say that in most cases for me anyway the Waves wins out every time.

I like the XLN Studio Grand. Easy to load, runs fine, sounds good. I find lots of uses for it, but also a lot of times when its not what I use. I like it a lot better than TP Amber, which I have but almost never use.

In my experience, piano's are very specific to the music/genre/setting you are working with, and you can't have too many different sounding ones.

I had made a piano comparison when the Rhapsody came out. Here it is:

Just to avoid confusion: the link in the OP goes to the demo version limited to 49 keys and with only half the number of mic perspectives as compared to the full version. That one you’d still have to purchase. Which is really not a bad idea. This instrument has a warm tone that I personally love and I use it all the time.

It's not bad for free, especially if you only need 4 octaves and something that loads up quick and sounds decent!

You can also add this directly from the XLN website to your account, and install with the XLN online installer.  XLN lists the full version at $79.99 but if you wait for a sale you can probably do better.

I have the True Pianos Amber, AIR Mini Grand, and the SONiVOX Eighty-Eight, and I think that this XLN piano is probably one of the best from that group.  I do like the Eighty-Eight, but it takes some time to load the samples, so it is not a quick piano to just grab and go with.  The only downside to the XLN UI is that it does not have an on-screen keyboard.  You can use the virtual keys in Sonar for that though if you need them.

DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...

Thanks Soundwise. I was actually looking for that the other day and got distracted on YouTube watching something else!  As you do!

This is a great comparison.  I still like the first one the most.  Love that mid range. There is a lot of rich harmonics in the mid range of the Waves plugin.  Some of the others sound muffled in comparison.

But I do agree they all vary a bit and in different circumstances could all be very useful.  Personally I feel the Waves handles a lot of broad uses and does not need much tweaking either.  There are plenty of options too with the Waves.

Here's a follow-up to Alisa's grand piano shootout. I used the same MIDI clip and mixed it down to a 48/24 WAV file. It opens with one bar of silence and then there's one bar of silence between pianos. Here's the Dropbox link to the 60 MB WAV file (it runs 3:30). You can run the WAV file directly or click on the ellipsis to the right of the OPEN button and click on Download.

I've included a couple from her list for comparison. The only thing I did was crudely level-balance the pianos. They are:

1) Addictive Keys Studio Grand - Close Mix
2) UVI Grand Piano Model D - Default
3) VI Labs True Keys American Grand - Close
4) VI Labs True Keys German Grand - Close
5) VI Labs True Keys Italian Grand - Close
6) VI Labs Ravenscroft 275 - Close
7) Sound Magic Neo Piano Fazioli Rose - Default
8) 4Front True Pianos Atlantis - Default
