What impact does RAM really have on performance?

As the subject said. I am running a quad 3.2 ghz intel i5 with 8gb RAM. I do get some studded especially higher plug in count. Aside from a new pc what’s gonna give me the biggest impact on performance.

Also I am sure I need to optimize for music on my PC running Win 10, does anyone know of a fairly easy to follow guide out there?

You need enough RAM to run your largest project.
If the system hits to Virtual-Memory Swapfile (in lieu of real physical RAM), that will kill performance.
Adding additional unused RAM will not increase performance.
IOW, If you have 16GB RAM... and your largest project is using 12GB, bumping the machine up to 32GB RAM will yield zero increase in performance.
