I don't know much about Electric guitars, but is that right that the Les Paul is the most well known.

Les Paul was a living legend. Interesting tidbit - Gibson initially rejected his Electric Guitar idea in 1941. (Imagine that?) They later took him up on it years later, because Leo Fender was by then being so successful with his Esquire solid-body (grand-daddy of the Telecaster).
