I've actually started speaking like Kenny Gioia

Anyone who has watched one of his excellent video courses will know that he has a distinctive accent and sort of halting flow to his speech. I actually quite like it.

Anyway I have watched so many of his Reaper videos over the last week that I've started talking like him as I'm using the program. I'm transferring a pretty intensive project over from Sonar with gazillions of automation, and I didn't even notice until just now but I've been talking myself through it like Kenny.

"Put a point here....move it over here.....select this one.....move it up.....take it down.....curve it........delete that one....."

It actually helps me keep track of what I'm doing and I'm starting to wonder if Kenny himself started talking like that for the same reason.

Very similar to when I binge watch a TV show, and after a while all conversations in my head are in the lead character's voice. lol

I did that a few years ago when I binged watched Peep Show. For ages afterward, I'd hear the character Mark's voice in my head whenever I disapproved of myself, and the character Jez's voice whenever I felt like I was being too stuffy and needed to lighten up.

Is he the guy who talks rather fast and raises the intonation at the end of declarative sentences so they sound a little like questions?  If so, he appears to know his stuff, but listening to him for very long induces fatigues, IMO.

They are pretty good videos...try listening to them at 1.5X!!!

...truth is, though, they have been a big help in coming up to speed in Reaper. There is even a plugin to port SONAR projects directly into Reaper, as well as [Playtime] which continues to get better and better as a replacement for Ableton Live

    - PugetSystems Serenity Mini: WIN 10-PRO 64-bit; Intel Quad i7-4670 turbo to 3.8GHz; 16GB RAM; ASUS Gryphon Z89 - Antec P180 case.
    - Focusrite Saffire Pro 40
    - DSI OB-6 (love child of a Prophet and an Oberheim)
    - NORD Electro 3HP

I've been following the development of Azslow's tool with interest - it certainly seems like an amazing achievement. However I decided it wasn't yet at the stage where it would successfully transfer enough of my projects over, particularly the effect automation and suchlike. So I decided to do it manually.

And while the thought terrified me before, I've come to be thankful that there wasn't a tool to do it for me automatically because in building these projects from scratch I have in the process gotten up to speed in Reaper to the point where I can do pretty much everything I was doing in Sonar (and doing it with much less hassle and frustration than in Sonar to boot!). I think I got less than halfway through Gioia's "WATCH THESE FIRST!" playlist on YouTube before I felt confident enough to roll my sleeves up. Along the way I've learned and discovered a load of stuff. But this is how I always learn things - a combination of formal tuition and blind experimentation. The one compliments the other.
