I like the way that a mod who is supposed to be tasked with keeping the forum in order and clutter free decided to add yet another thread about this subject in the Sonar forum after it had already been posted several times (including one by a mod).

As for the news...... good I guess, but I'll reserve judgement until there are further details.

Too late.  I'm moving on to Reaper and Mixbus.  Already in the middle of a massive clean up and organization operation of all projects and audio to prepare for moving to Reaper.  I've been using Cakewalk for over 20 years. I'd rather not switch, but I just don't trust the future of Cakewalk anymore.

I was originally going to keep using Sonar X1 anyway, but the comping tools and options in Reaper is just too impressive to ignore, especially for multi-mic recording set ups like acoustic drums.

Glad to see it will live on, though.  The more competition, the better for us.

I'm still 95% sceptical about it. No promises made to continue CW/Sonar as a software. Could well be they modernize the software/brand and launch it with no connections to CW. We've heard it so many times under the past years, that SONAR is seen by many as the software your grandpa uses. BandLab may want to make a total facelift, and forget the original product completely. We'll see. I sure hope SONAR/CW lives on.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I think this is great news! A new lease of life.

I think also there is a lot of synergy. Bandlab occupies a segment that I would suggest is 'quick and dirty' or 'collaborate on the move' recording.

SONAR is a pro level solution so there could be a migration path from BandLab to SONAR.

Just my opinion. Let's see.

Let's wait and see. It may take an awful long time before you see the new face of Bandlab/cakewalk. Even the name is up in the air. I can wait, until then I will continue to work in studio One 3

Definitely not going to lose sleep over the purchase actually I feel pretty good about it. At least there is a glimmer of hope in Cakewalks future where there was real uncertainty a few weeks ago but as you say time will tell.

Many thoughts and feelings are being expressed. Some hopeful, some cynical. All to be expected. I myself was not convinced Sonar would ever live again, and was prepared to use 8.5 Studio on Windows 7 the rest of my life (one of the advantages of being in your sixties is that you can say things like that with a realistic chance of them being true). If this had not happened, there's a good chance nothing would have. No, we don't really know Band Lab's intentions. Yes, it appears to be a company geared to a younger crowd than many of us. But technology is changing so rapidly. Will DAWS themselves even be around in 15 years, other than as ancient software used by a generation on their way out the door? At least Sonar has a chance at life now. Surely that is better than an unmarked grave in Silicon Valley.
