Try reading any one of multiple threads right in front of you which discuss this very issue.

Better yet read the sticky meng put up. Explains it quite well as it stands.

I think he needs to modify the title to include "Read this first" so these topics can be stopped before they litter the forum.

I'm for free exchange of idea's but sometimes emotion make some a little uncertain as to whether they should post or search and read.

Hi Alan-Russell,
I think you asked a reasonable question; and I believe that you deserve a courteous reply.  The two quotes below are from Meng's post.  I hope it helps you.

Question: I’m an existing or old SONAR user and have questions about my old account or subscription or want a refund.
Answer: BandLab Technologies did not acquire the operating company of Cakewalk Inc., only the complete set of intellectual property, patents, trademarks and certain assets necessary or related to the entire Cakewalk product suite.

Also:
Our steadfast goal is that former SONAR owners (of all versions) will not need to spend any money to cross-over/cross-grade to the future flagship product.

So it looks to me like lifetime updates are a thing of the past, but crossgrading to the new product will be a freebie.

Good luck with your music.

You haven't lived until you've taken the Rorschach.
