How do I build up a synth part in SPLAT?

How do I build up a synth part in SPLAT?

I am looking for the right record options, perhaps echo-back options, and perhaps some other settings to do something very simple which I cannot do: build up a synth part. I'm not talking about looping. Imagine I want to record a really wide, thick chord. So I record a chord. Then I go back and record some additional voices on top of that original recording. Simple right?
 
The logical record option to use would appear to be Sound on Sound. But when I use this I get note duplication. CRAZY note duplication, like 4 notes on the same beat and tick after quantizing, even though I only played the note once. I have tried every combination of settings in record options, tried echo-back on and through, but I cannot get the simple "sound on sound" behavior I expect. What the heck is going on?

    You probably have a midi loop where your track output is re-triggering your keyboard while you're recording new notes....... If you're just layering notes on top of an existing chord and then quantizing them - why not just play the original chord tones and then copy / drag those midi notes to new note positions to get your super duper spread chord.

    You could freeze each midi note to get an audio file then move to new track or tracks to manipulate as wanted with effects etc. Stack the harmony as needed. Then, if desired, to an new track as a harmonized part.

    Yes I think that's what's happening. How do I make that not happen?

    I just gave that as an example, i build up parts this way all the time. It can't be not do-able, it's so incredibly basic.

    I might make 10 passes on my part adding notes. We're talking basic sound on sound recording. This always worked in older versions of Sonar, I think the record modes got screwed up when take lanes were added (or re-done).

    See above, track output is retriggering MIDI keyboard. I've assumed that (as I said) all along. There has got to be a combination of settings such that that won't happen, unless the program is badly broken.

    Notes already recorded are sent back to your synth/keyboard while you are recording new notes. The old notes shouldn't come back to be recorded again unless the synth is somehow configured to do so, as if it is acting as a "thru" as well as an out. Or maybe you have other midi equipment we don't know about. Also, check the channels of all the recorded notes. Are they all the same or different?

    OK looks like the problem is only w/ NI synths wrapped by Komplete Kontrol, which I've been using pretty exclusively. I tried a standalone synth and it worked fine. Maybe there's a setting in KK or I need to use a different driver. Thanks all for your help.
