Love on the Line

Hi All,
Like everyone else here, I breathed a huge sigh of relief after the news that Cakewalk would live again! On top of all that,  I just made it through the almost total loss of both my music hard-drives in an electrical storm. It took 2 weeks of file recovery to pull everything from the only barely surviving drive that held all of my music files from the last 16 years. One of those songs, which I thought was lost is now complete (maybe) for your critique and enjoyment. Thank you for taking the time to listen and feedback!

A fantastic recording. What's the breakdown on the instruments...virtual organs, real? You played guitars and sang? Are the drums real drums? How did you record the electric guitars? DI or amped? The fidelity is great. I'm envious!

    Good news about your drives.

Fantastic song and arrangement. I’d like to hear the vocals a little louder in the thick part of the mix. It’s perfect during the soft break though. Keep up the great work!

Thank you for the kind words Stringjammer! I always struggle with vocal balance as I hate my voice so pushing them louder is tough...ill try a new eq and push them a bit.

Hi Montezuma... Thank you for the listen and feedback! All keys are virtual, badly played on a nektar controller and quantized later. Drums are AD2. Vocals are me. Guitars are all mic'ed amps... telecaster clean rhythm, crunch is L.P. and leads are strat... I wanted the messy feedback from single coils.

I can't seem to get a high volume during mastering without lots of compressor artifacts... any advice appreciated.

Thank you all for the feedback. I've pushed the vocals a little higher and scooped out some lower-mids. Please let me know what you think. Link in first post now leads to the new version.

I think this is very good Paul. The vocals and keys sound a little distorted during the chorus though and a bit too loud in my humble opinion. But it's really very good.

Sounds good!  Nice catchy song with good drive, and enough going on to keep things interesting.

Like Wayfarer I hear just a bit of "crunchiness" in the mix, but that could be the compressor artifacts you referred to.   Either way, it's still a good mix IMO and suits the song well.
