whats the deal with the dither

pow-r 3 is gone why would that be taken out all these years. it is used in mastering if you master in sonar shouldn't that still be a feature in the program instead of having to add a plugin.

yes but if we have Platinum, and then install CBB alongside, will Powr3 dithering be available in CBB?

I've been querying this and getting short shrift from Noel and the moderator, which frankly brasses me off as someone who's spent hundreds of pounds on Sonar over the last fourteen years or so.  I'm not some johnny come lately who's just signed up to BandLab to get his excellent free DAW.  And Pow-r wasn't a paid for plugin, but yes, I understand Sonar must have been paying for a licence to have it included in their product for the last few years.

Basically, they're saying it's gone, BandLab won't pony up for a licence renewal when Cakewalk BandLab is a free product, and we should use something else to dither as we see fit.

But. If you check on the Cakewalk Facebook page they are saying:-
"Yes, this was indeed left out while we continue to work through the licensing agreement. It'll be back very soon. Should be the only thing missing that you find, so please don't fret."

Re: whats the deal with the dither 2018/04/06 19:04:07 (permalink)
I thought this was pretty clear.
Noel Borthwick [Cakewalk]
The Pow-R licence couldn't transfer over to a free software model so we had to remove it. Nothing else was removed besides third party plugins whose licences wouldn't transfer to BandLab.

BandLab purchased Cakewalk IP. Cakewalk licensed Pow-r so it was not part of the sale. BandLab is not going to pay for the Pow-r license fee in order to give it way. It is no different than the plug-ins bundled with SONAR licensed from third parties.

Maybe they will work something out. I have no idea what is posted on FB or who posted it. I can only go by what Noel posts here and provide a link it.

i guess moving forward have to use it on a plugin the adaptive limiter has on there and the waves mastering plugin has it so that's the new route.

And this is why you do not see POW-r3. You need to keep platinum in order not to loose some things, like dither options and some 3rd party plugins.

Hopefully pow-r will be part of BandLab's Adaptive Limiter. More likely because the plug-in will not be free to all BandLab users, just previous Platinum users.

Use triangular dither. If you can hear the difference between that and Powr-X, you have better ears than my dog.

My dog howls when I play my songs.

So does my girlfriend, so it can't be the dithering algorithm.

My band has a lab (her name is River). I asked if she could hear the difference between triangular and Powr-3 dither.
She looked at me like I was crazy, curled up on the rug behind me and went back to sleep.
