Legacy VST Adapter Question

Hi,

I'd really appreciate some insight from anyone who may have past experience using the VST Adapter in the S4-S6 era.

I'm currently using Directixer to wrap the Superior 2 Drummer VSTi so that Sonar sees it as a DXi.  If I were to instead try to use the Sonar VST adapter is this something that is fully reversible?  In other words, can VST's that are wrapped by the Sonar VST adapter later be completely "removed" (using the plug-in manager, etc)? Or rather once they are scanned & added does Sonar basically consider them permanently installed and/or registered in the OS?
