Multiple repeats of a one measure MIDI drum machine pattern
I did this exercise years ago using a MIDI drum pattern from EZDrummer using SONAR 8.5. First, I would choose a one measure beat and paste it into a SONAR MIDI track. Then I would right-click on the single measure pattern and change the Clip Properties tab, 'Audio Stretching", to enable looping.
I then would highlight that pattern, copy it, and paste it multiple times to a new MIDI track. I recall the trick to having the downbeat sound correct as the patterns aligned was having the Snap Properties set correctly. There are various options for Absolute Time and Musical Time, etc... I'm not sure what the correct settings should be.
I am now trying to do the same exercise with a one measure 4/4 beat produced from a BOSS DR-670 drum machine (I'm just that hip!). I have the MIDI pattern recorded in SONAR 8.5. I have enabled looping on that clip. But I'm not sure how to copy that clip 8 times into a new track correctly to have it keep the downbeat aligning correctly. Does the tempo in the drum machine have to match SONAR's? What else am I doing wrong?
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this. I'm sure this is a very basic exercise everyone knows the answer to (except me).
Thanks.
