New Song - Commemoration

My latest song. I used my banjo, mandolin, and 1933 Gibson L-00 that is a
family heirloom along with real bass, real drums, and a handful of sampled
instruments. I decided to make the song a salute to the people who
sacrificed their lives for the love of their country.

It's titled "Commemoration" at:

This was awesome Glennbo. I loved the way it started so simply and then having the bass and drums come in with a smack! I really liked the funky time signature too. The mix sound good to me. A very unique piece. Nice job!

Memorial Day has become so commercialized as the kickoff to Summer that we've lost sight of what it really is. The "remembrance" of people who died while serving their country. Many of them signed up, never thinking they would see any action, and then found themselves in wars they didn't start where their lives could abruptly end.

My song was not intended to glorify war or blind patriotism, but meant to honor those who went to work one day and then never made it back.

The front half has phrasing that goes 6-6-5-7,  which all adds up to 24, and fits into plain Jane measures of 4/4 as if it were 12/8.  I like tricking the public into listening to more complex music than they believe they can process.  ;)

I dig it. I like banjo mixed with rock, pop, and jazz. I don't know why more people don't do it. Do you remember the band Mason Proffit that did that "Two Hangmen" song"? They had banjo on a lot of their songs, most of which were country-rock and pop-rock. Earl Scruggs once said their banjo player was the best he'd ever heard.

Awesome arrangement but kind of fizzled a bit on the change for my money a bar or so late on the pickup.

Ok, so I liked the first half better than the second.  Loved it, actually.  The timing was sweet, too.

I didn't care for the beginning so much, but once the other instruments came in I thought it was great!

That was different!  The first section sounded more "country" to me with the second half coming across as "patriotic", but both sound good IMO.    Either way, well done Glennbo.    And props for your reason to create it.
