VocalSynth2 - how to set up in MIDI mode?
I'm trying the demo of izotope's recently released VocalSynth2 and can't see how to set it up in CbB in MIDI mode, i.e. where MIDI notes drive the notes in the vocoder and other effects. When you click to go into MIDI mode it lists all DAWs except ours... Has anyone tried this plugin yet and can help me? Thanks.

I don't have Vocalsynth 2 but I have 1 and here's how you do it in 1, although it might be set up differently on 2. 1. Create an audio track. Record a vocal and apply Vocalsynth from the FX bin. You don't have to sing. Just speak. The music part will come later. 2. At the top of Vocalsynth you should see a dropdown that says VST3 (on ver 1 it is up to the right of the No Presets selection box). On the VST 3 dropdown box select ENABLE MIDI INPUT. 3. Click the MIDI icon (top of Vocalsynth. A "Plug" icon just like a MIDI track in Cakewalk). 4. Create a MIDI track. In the MIDI tracks OUTPUT box select Izotope Vocalsynth. 5. Press RECORD on the MIDI track and play on your keyboard what harmony or chords you want on your audio track (vocals). Hope this helps.

Also, are you selecting this as an EFFECT? This is how it's supposed to work. I just tried running it in CbB and it works fine for me.

I got it working, thanks! There was no MIDI plug icon that I could see but I loaded a MIDI Auto preset, then did step 2. again and all is now well. Much appreciated. At this stage I don't think I'll invest after the demo, as I've been through the myriad of presets and only found one that I can use. The rest are all too extreme. Still, I'll have a fiddle and see if I can make my own subtle versions.

I could upgrade for $79.00 USD but I don't think I will for the same reason you spoke of. The presets kind of suck and in order to get the best out of it you really have to take the time to experiment with it. Also, you almost have to use a gate because it picks up every little background noise and makes them sound ridiculous. It's over rated. I used it in about 3 projects of mine in a small way. Glad I could help.

I emailed iZotope support to ask about setting up VocalSynth2 in Cakewalk BbBL/Sonar and received this very disappointing reply: (My italics below) "Thanks for reaching out to iZotope Customer Care. Please be advised that Sonar is not a supported host for VocalSynth 2. Supported hosts include Logic Pro X, Ableton Live 9-10, Pro Tools 10-2018, Cubase 9.5, FL Studio 12, Studio One 3, Reason 10, Reaper 5, and Bitwig Studio 2. While you may be able to achieve partial functionality, the product’s behavior and performance will likely be unstable and unpredictable. For these reasons, iZotope cannot provide support for this workflow. I apologize for any inconvenience. For your reference, full OS/DAW compatibility information can be found here: https://www.izotope.com/e...design/vocalsynth.html *Specs found at the bottom of the page I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance, and thank you for being an iZotope customer!" It seems they'd completely written off Sonar before it was even acquired by CbBL. The response explains why I was getting appalling sounds from the demo. The final 'have a nice day' line made me laugh. Well, as it happens I remain an iZotope customer because of their excellent Ozone8.

Interesting. Since they use the word SONAR and not Cakewalk it makes me wonder if they even supported any version of Sonar prior to the change in November.

Skyline- I looked again at your last thread and I'm just wondering where you said "appalling results". Do you understand that you are supposed to expect somewhat "appalling results" from this product? It's supposed to be an vocal "special effect" application, so it's supposed to sound weird like a vocoder would. You can't expect it to work like a Nectar 2 or Melodyne that are supposed to enhance your natural vocal sound. Just wanted to make sure you understand that. JB

Fully understood JB. When I say 'appalling' I mean not in any way sounding like a special effect anyone would possibly want to use, i.e. full of artifacts, gritty, unpleasant, i.e. not simply novel and quirky. I'm going to try the demo in Studio One; if it's ok there then I can always do a project/track in S1 instead if I want a something like a vocal special effect akin to iZotope's demos of the product.

I have used VocalSynth 2 with great results, but I find that I have to always tailor the configuration to the peculiarities of the track I'm processing. So far the presets have not matched my needs. I have used them to quickly get some modules up, but with tweaking those settings it's a wash on setup time. :) Happy Formanting

FYI-Make sure you back up your custom settings if you plan on using them again.
