Select Tool issue on Staff View

Hi! I've noticed an issue with Select Tool behavior on Staff View after I updated CbB on June.

Until then it was possible to select notes and call context menu right clicking on an empty space.
But with last CbB update this will unselect notes and context menu options will be greyed out.
Has anyone else seen this issue?

Thanks!

Edit:
Just to update this post the following tools are also buggy: Smart Tool, Select Tool and Draw Tool . Other tools are working fine.

Also I tried to reproduce this on Sonar Professional 2017.07, but all tools are working fine.

Hi, I recorded the Select Tool behavior on Staff View, as well as Smart Tool and Draw Tool with same issue.

If someone could reproduce this it will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

If you select all the notes Just in one bar..even the rests, does it still go funny grey outs on the drop down menu ?...and, could you post something liken the above to see if that is it, if it does anything to curb the problem?...might help em troubleshoot , if it is a bug.?

Just curious in the waiting to see what comes to from the rapture of Sonar....On PC

@mgustavo,
Testing with CbB 2018.05 Build 20, I can reproduce the deselection and disabled context menu option behavior you are seeing.  As you reported, Platinum 2017.10 does not have this behavior.

As a workaround, I found that you can hold down the Ctrl key while right-clicking in a blank area to bring up the context menu with the options enabled.

I don't know if this new behavior is an intentional change or not.

Hope this helps,
-- Ron

Hi SquireBum, thanks for your reply! I was wondering if this was intentional too but I read on CbB 2018.05 Release Notes the following bug fixes:
  • Note selection in Staff View is not cleared when clicking empty space or drawing new notes
  • Clicking empty space to clear selection in Staff View causes Windows chime sound
It seems to me that the issue is related, or at least they are similar.
Fortunately the Ctrl key workaround does the trick. Thanks!

Hi, just to add information to this issue, it also happens if one selects notes on Staff View he won't be able to move them with Select Tool, as that will clear selection (the same behavior of OP).

In this case SquireBum's workaround won't work here, because Ctrl key + dragging notes will result on copying them to a new place.

Best regards

I can confirm that using the Select tool to move selected notes in the Staff View is no longer functioning as expected.

The only workaround I found, other than Cut/Paste, was to hold down the SHIFT key before clicking the selected notes.  Continue to hold SHIFT until the Select tool cursor converts to the Move tool cursor (crossed arrows).  After the Move tool appears the user can release the SHIFT key (or continue to hold it down) and drag the selected notes.

EDIT:  Holding down the SHIFT key can be used as a workaround for the greyed out context menu items issue first reported in the OP.

EDIT:  I am currently running version 2018.06 build 14.

Hope this helps,

Re: Select Tool issue on Staff View 2018/07/01 16:52:19 (permalink)
I'm glad to see someone posting on this issue.  I recently encountered this when I was trying to transpose notes that I had selected with the Select Tool.  The second I right clicked to bring up menu options to select Transpose the notes would be deselected.  In Sonar Platinum Staff View this worked as it should, but in the Platinum PRV it didn't.   Now, in CbB it is the opposite.   You can do it in the PRV but you can't do in the SV.  This problem also occurs in the SV and PRV when selecting notes by clicking a midi clip in the track view- the second you right-click for menu options all notes in the clip are deselected.

Do we need to report this to BandLab or can we assume they are reading this board and will look into the issue?

Hi SquireBum, thanks! The Shift key did the job. : )

MFanning I posted this issue on Feature resquests and improvements sticky thread, I guess it's read by BandLab team.

Best regards
