Do you guys know if it is possible to buy JUST the plastic housing for a P-Bass pickup?

I've mentioned this issue before but was kind of going to the route of replacing the whole pickup. Essentially the top screw hole on the plastic housing that holds the pickup down/allows the pup height to be adjusted is broken (some dumbass dropped it... not me). This makes the top end of the pup stick up annoyingly close to the E string making it hard to play without "pops". The pickup still sounds/works fine and I don't want to spend more money than I need to.

If I could find just the cover I'm hoping I can pop the old one off and attach the new one. I'm not even sure if that's possible either.

On a related note I just called the big chain music store in town to inquire about getting them to take a look at it and they told me the only service they provide at that location is guit setup. Anything beyond that they ship the instrument to another city... which is annoying and would likely jack the cost of the repair. Quite disappointing. They were however nice enough (and I guess it's their in store policy) to provide me with the names of local indie luthiers and electronics doods. Considering this is such a piddly arse repair though I'm not sure if it would even be worth their time (and/or they'd charge me some minimum repair time price). I'm gonna call some of those guys anyway but if I can just do this particular repair myself... well that would be ideal.

Cheers.

Dammit!

Upon closer inspection these are loafers I don't think the housing can be replaced at all. Without tearing the whole bass apart I can see that the housing seems to wrap around the electronics completely. For some reason I thought it was just a top cover.

I might be able to jury rig something though.... however since all the pickup screws seem to be stripped I think mayhaps I should call one of the local repair guys. Maybe I can get a bulk deal because I need work done on my Ibanez (wiring/some fret replacement) and my acoustic (fret/nut replacement).

So I guess... nevermind.

Holy crap! Nice find Leadster!

I was googlin' and coming up with nuthin. As for the construction of the pickup I was describing perhaps I am mistaken.

Sweet!

Ya, but I think I was seeing things in a weird way because I can only see into the smashed part of the pickup. Those look like they'd work. I'm assuming the bottom part of the housing I was looking at is detachable somehow and those would just screw down onto it or sumthin'.

Anyway that's the first I've seen of those and this has been buggin' me for a loooong time. Just my price range too. lol

Thanks again.

hmm... I think I'm gonna need some mounting screws too. Poor ole gurl's been through so much over the years. Getting doused with beer, sweat, blood and possibly vomit seems to have corroded star slots on the heads.

I'm sure I can get them unscrewed but I seriously doubt I could screw them back down again.

Fortunately they sell those but being the cheap arse I am I might try to find similar screws (more accurately bolts) at the hardware store or in my rando hardware jug.

I'm also thinking guitar pup mouting screws are one of those rare situations where a flathead slot might be preferable.

A really good source for miscellaneous, or hard-to-find instrument parts is Allparts.com.  ere is a link to their pickup parts: https://www.allparts.com/pickup-winding-parts

Nice, Jim. That actually seems to be the supplier for the parts in the ebay account Leadfoot linked to and through your link VIOLA!

It also has the screws in the "compatible parts" suggestions underneath.

Now I just need to see what their payment and shipping methods are all about.

Thanks.
