Any news on the "pegged meters / loud pop / no audio" issue? I´m getting desperate here.

Hello all,

I spent a serious part of the evening reading through most of the previous posts about the "pegged meters / no audio" issue. While some threads did give me a few ideas to try in the pursuit of getting rid of this extremely annoying problem, the problem still persists.

Recently, I got the excellent iZotope Producers Pack and Neutron2 & Ozone seem to increase the probability of getting the problem which is a shame as I have to freeze a most tracks (which I guess helps by disabling the FX), despite having plenty of CPU power left (E5-2667v2, 8*3.3GHz). The last few weeks, I think I´ve been spending more time to reboot the computer / restart Sonar than acutally making any music.

Other parameters I´ve played with (with no effect):
* Switched soundcard
* Changed buffer size
* Uninstalled antivirus
* Disabled Hyperthreading
* Disabled Plug-in load balancing
* Changing Thread scheduling model
* Changing Zero fill method
...+ some other things I forgot.

Is this issue being adressed by Cakewalk/Bandlab staff?

    Hi, I haven't heard of pegged meters, you mean all the way up/lit?  I did have a similar issue with no audio but meters worked like there was audio.  For me, changing my audio interface was what ultimately worked....i was using an old, unsupported device previously.

    Disable core parking and re-enable hyper threading.

    maybe try "Audio Engine on/off "  &  " Reset / Panic (Reset MIDI and AUDIO) located in Transport Module.

    Have you tried un-checking the 64 bit internal processing box?

    What you're describing is something I have experienced in the past, but for me it's always been a soundcard issue . . . yet, you're using RME BabyFace, which employs some of the best audio drivers in the marketplace ?

    I use iZotope Neutron2 and Ozone 8 extensively in my projects, it's true they can hog CPU, but I haven't run into issues like you're describing, even with my humble M-Audio USB audio device, though, I've updated to Cakewalk by BandLab, so that's different.

    Only thing I may add here, that I haven't seen listed, is to try and disable any high definition audio add ons your video card may be using in Windows Device Manager ?

    Cakewalk by Bandlab, Cubase, RME Babyface Pro, Intel i7 3770K @3.5Ghz, Asus P8Z77-VPro/Thunderbolt, 32GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce GTX 660 Ti, 250 GB OS SSD, 2TB HDD samples, Win 10 Pro 64 bit, backed up by Macrium Reflect, Novation Impulse 61 Midi Key Controller, Tannoy Active Near Field Monitors, Guitars by Vantage, Gibson, Yamaki and Ovation.

    I'm curious, what video card are you using?

    I have also done this without any success. Even disabled in bios.

    I think we need more clarification here

    Which meters are pegging?
    All of them? Tracks? Busses? Master?

    If "pegging meters" means they're continuously lit up to the red, I've experienced such in the past, too.
    Unfortunately I don't remember the details, but it was about routing/souncard settings. In my case the pegging was due to an audio feedback loop, which just did not come out from the loudspeakers. The mobo sound card had something to do with it.

    i used to get a similar problem that after much testing, i found out it was being caused by the VX-64 Vocal Strip.  but that was back in either X2 or X3 days.  the plugin no longer causes me any problems.

    At this point, I'd install CbB. I have both installed, using CbB. they've made many bug fixes, perhaps it will help…

    I spent an hour dealing with that yesterday. It was happening on only one project, but a project I'd had open earlier in the day without issues and had not changed.

    The symptom was two pops, then silence, and +9 dB on one of the sub-busses (and master). Changing the buffer size did alter the symptoms a little: the smaller the buffer, the shorter the interval between the pops.

    As was the case the last time I saw this (maybe 1-2 years ago), globally bypassing all fx bins made the out-of-control signal settle down. And as before, re-enabling them one at a time resulted in the problem going away. Once gone, it stays gone, even after closing and re-opening the project. I'd made no modifications, had not closed any programs, nor rebooted before or after the problem showed up. Today it opens just fine.

    Cosmic rays. Must be.

    Where I have seen this was always related to something in the Pro-channel.  In my case it was usually the console emulators. If I disabled it it would go away. However, If I re-enabled it it would come back.  If I deleted the offending Pro-channel plug-in and re-added it it would go away for good.

    Thanks for the replies!

    About the drivers, I don´t believe the issue is related to the soundcard as the issue will even affect audio exports. According to Noel, it´s a NaN being generated somewhere whithin the VST signal flow.

    I´m using a Nvidia GTX 1070, HDMI HD audio driver is disabled.

    64 bit processing does not seem to make a difference. It also seems that disabling hyperthreading makes the problem show up less frequently but again, it could be random.

    I disabled core parking by using Bitsum Park Control, it did seem to make the problem appear less frequently but it´s hard to be sure.

    I´m not seeing this issue on all projects, only older ones. I´m wondering if this is because they were created using an older Sonar version or because they have become more cluttered?

    Edit: I´m also leaning to blame cosmic rays for this odd issue. Perhaps the intermittent nature of the problem is due to sun storms :) ?
