Carpal Tunnel, anyone?

I don't know if that's what I have, but my right arm is in agony.  I have to type left handed.  I'm going to see hatchet-man when I get home this weekend.

Reduced posting from me may undo the damage my bullying has caused.  :)

Try to hold off on the raucous celebrations until I'm out the door, please.

it may seem trivial, but if you mouse a lot, try changing hands (eg, i'm right-handed, but at work i mouse southpaw style, it definitely makes a difference)

With carpel tunnel syndrome the pain is often in the hand itself, also you get a tingling or pins and needles sensation in the fingers, although arm pain is also part of the deal. Does it alleviate after moving the fingers and shaking the wrist? Thats usually a good indicator of CPS. Either way, you need to seek treatment. Hope it gets better quick for you Bubba.,

I really hate hand problems.  As a result of my Bone Marrow Transplant several years ago I've had to deal with various Graft vs. Host issue, the most recent being GvHD related scleroderma.  The medication I'm taking to counteract some of the related symptoms is causing severe cramping, especially in my right hand to the point where even writing with a pen has become bothersome and sometimes very painful and excessive use of a mouse can get it going - thankfully I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts so I've been able to work around the mouse issue.

Thankfully holding a guitar pick seems OK so far and I'm right handed and my left hand very rarely cramps.  I hope you figure out whats up.

My pain is located in the forearm about 1.5" below the wrist, so it may be something else.  i'm going to ice it this afternoon.  Thanks for the feedback.

I've never had any issues with carpal tunnel (thank Goodness). Bubba, are you going to get it evaluated by a witch doctor Physician? Just to rule it out?

The other alternative (which I thought Bapu might encorporate to increase his Post count Nirvana) is using This. (Works well for bullies too)

Have you tried an inexpensive wrist brace? Might not work for your specific issues, but I've had problems from time to time where it definitely helped. It was well worth the $6 it cost me.

I was going to use a shag carpet, Bapu, just for the Austin Powers jokes.

    Yeah, baby!

I'm going to try a wrist brace because I hate typing left handed.

You have my my sympathy though normally Carpel Tunnel results in pain in the hand.

The thumb, index and ring fingers can feel numb, or like they are on fire.  It can also feel like sulphuric acid has been injected under the skin of the hand.

Well thats my personal experience both paws you peeps just don not understand how much vibration there is when using a light sabre.

I used to get and still do some numbness in my hands. Usually worse after a long hard session on my bike.

I saw a Dr. about it a few years ago, he sent me to hospital to have some x-rays while someone else pulled me about a bit (not a tasty nurse unfortunately).

The hospital said my Dr. would be in touch when the results came back. I'm assuming it must be the worlds slowest X-ray machine or it was nothing much to worry about because that was about 6 years ago and I haven't heard anything since.

My hands are now nowhere near as bad as they used to be though. Only thing I've changed is my diet.

I could hardly walk about 8 months ago. My left leg swelled up twice it's normal size. Went to the doctor, he said it was a blood clot, sent me to the hospital right away for an ultrasound. The nurse said the doctor would call me within an hour with the results.

    Still haven't heard from him.

Leg still swollen, just not quite as bad.

    Hip is killing me.

    What do you do.

That's a really scary story Bub, I've had three clotting incidents, two resulting in pulmonary embolisms, one of those even after they put a filter in to prevent clots migrating from my legs to my lungs.  My first was similar in that I went to a walk in clinic (I was young at the time and had no insurance at the time) and when the doctor saw me he immediately had the nurse call the hospital to have a venogram done as soon as possible.  I ended up in the hospital for well over a month and a half for that first incident.

Given all the medical problems I've had I don't let doctors get away with shoddy service.  If a doctor does not provide me quality care, I'll find a new physician.

I hope it has resolved itself, and nothing comes of it.

UB, from the sounds of it, you may be suffering from Ulnar Palsy. This can be aggravated by resting your wrists on the table when you type or mouse.

Since I've programmed for over 40 years, that means I've also been using some kind of computer for that long, however it's "only " been during the last 30 years that I've had to use a mouse so I use the trackball type (currently one with a thumb-ball) so I don't get carpal tunnel syndrome.  So far it has worked!

I've had some clots.  I was lucky that the clots were in my arteries instead of my veins.  That's what killed that rapper a few months ago.  I'm doing the low-dose baby aspirin these days.  The doctors and nurses tell me that everyone should be getting up and walking around for 10 minutes out of every hour to avoid the clots.  Sometimes, we can't help it, but if we all remember to do it more often it should help to avoid a lot of those problems.

Best wishes and good health to all.

I've had problems with both my thumbs since I've moved. Probably due to the heavy lifting I did. It hurt pretty bad but I still got my practice in and that kept my sessions going. It's been over a month now and I still have sharp pain in the tendons.  For a week or two I had trouble just doing bar chords or left hand muting. I believe most of my problem is due to the string gauge I use.  .12 - 56 on the Strat and I tune to standard pitch also I use  left hand vibrato quite a bit.   I may go to Eb  and use my Ibanez standard pitch. The bass player has 3 basses and wouldn't have a problem doing that. It's better now but still hurts. I learned at UNT that this type of injury can take months to heal so I'm not pushing myself.

I bashed up my left elbow a few years back and have since had some trouble with my left arm sometimes feeling really stiff and sore..this usually ends up affecting my ulnar portion of my left hand.  I was told that I had some residual damage from the bashed elbow...
