Yeah. It really cleaned all the s*** out of my music   ..............well maybe not all of it.

This didn't happen to me. I heard about it second hand only I changed a few details. The person telling it said that the lady it happened to was serious as a heart attack. She said this when asked how she got religion. *whew* I never forgot it because it was so strange. Must have been a real electrifying experience.

My inspiration comes from careful note for note copying of other peoples work. Plagiarism, in other words.
But seriously, I will make song parts. An intro, a chorus or nifty lead line. Start with a small part and sometime a song might attach itself to it. Don't believe the BS. If you ever had it you have it now.

One I'm working on for The Deals Forum Someday

Oh
I want a new plug
One that won't make me sick
One that won't make me crash my DAW
Or make me feel three feet thick

I want a new plug
One that won't hurt my set
One that won't make my sound too dry
Or make my sound too wet

One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I mix as good as you
When I'm alone with you

I want a new plug
One that won't kill
One that don't cost too much
Or sound too shrill

I want a new plug
One that won't go away
One that won't keep me up all night
One that won't make me sleep all day

One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I mix as good as you
I'm alone with you
I'm alone with you, baby

I want a new plug
One that does what it should
One that wont make me sound too bad
One that wont make me sound too good

I want a new plug
One that dont shout
One that dont make me talk too much
or make my face break out

One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I mix as good as you
I'm alone with you
I'm alone with you, yeah, yeah

Lately, I get more inspiration out of practicing...
Over the past two years, I've been studying chords and chord theory.
I try to learn a new chord weekly by going through some practice routines and inserting the new chord (via 1st, 2nd and 3rd inversions) into the routine.
Most of the time, the routine is playing the circle of 5ths forwards and backwards.
This, 9 times out of 10 will inspire me into writing..

I keep forgetting this is supposed to be a serious conversation.

In order to get any kind of inspiration I need to be well rested, not hungry, relaxed but not so relaxed I want to sleep, just chilled enough to sit and intensely contemplate, have plenty of time and not ever feel rushed or distracted. Those can all be rare occurrences for me. In addition I need to be emotionally centered. Not upset at anyone or anything, not worrying about anything, not overly concerned about what anyone else will think of it because creative expression is about you, not about what the world thinks of it. No pre conceived agendas for me. I can't be so critical of things in the beginning or nothing will happen....It's like putting one foot in front of the other one. You need to begin somewhere. You can always change where that somewhere is later on. Creativity doesn't always follow a plan. An idea maybe but it doesn't need to be a detailed plan.

Hi Tim ,

I had an Idea that you were just messing with me

I busted my right arm really bad up near the shoulder 3 months ago .
This injury affected all areas of my life ....for the sake of this post I will keep it just to the music ...
Just holding a guitar was painful due to the break as it was healing and the whole chicken type of the right shoulder movement ( even to this day ) was and is super painful ...
On a good day I was able to play for about 5 mins before it became way too pain full .
My left hand was OK , my right hand and shoulder would shut me down .

After about a month of this I went out and bought myself a brand new Squier Tele w a Boss Katana mini amp ..
I would always keep this guitar and amp in my line of sight while at home . I would spend hours looking at this combo and tell my self I'm gonna come back stronger as a player...
Yeah there is nothing like a new guitar to help with the whole inspiration process  ....

I am back stronger now  . I do not take my playing for granted ..I feel I'm lucky to still be here

Sorry to hear about what happened Kenny. I can feel the frustration in hearing about the the inability to fully play the way you could before. I'm glad you are getting better now.

You are am amazing guitar player. You didn't get that way by being lazy. I think some of that determination probably fueled your recovery. Good musicians don't quit or give up. They didn't get good by simply waking up one day and being good. Unfortunately as we age there might be some trade offs. I can't see us not doing what we like to do though....one way or the other. Good luck on your recovery! Hang in there! Time to make another video?

Sure , in all seriousness , that approach for me is like a bread and butter type of approach .It's one of the things I love most about having a DAW .
I'm working my way back so for the past few days all I have done is played my git over loops ...

Very Good Routine
I'm slowing down with the playing it through the whole cycle thing ...a few keys at a sitting or a few chromatic steps in a practice session ..
The Guitars fret board is so geometric ...I have often been amazed at how lost I can get when it is only one step diff
ex E to Eb ...C to B ...those for me are OK... C to D b on the other hand ...whew that's a big one and it present a whole nother story

Hi Tim,

Life on Life's terms . Yeah , things happen To us all .
The frustration and physical pain has pretty much passed . Thankfully , it was only temporary .
I can play better than I ever have ( knock on wood )

Thank you for the super kind words you said . Wow after hearing them , where do I send the check ?
All joking & kidding aside Thank You Tim . it means a lot too me
Playing the guitar and working on Music all these years has been a very strong medicine for my soul .

Starise
Unfortunately as we age there might be some trade offs.

That assessment seems true for us all. I suppose it eventually  becomes " how do we handle it "( these changes ) "as individuals "

I'm starting to notice $h*t starts falling apart a lot faster as I get older .
I had to say  Good Bye to wearing waist  34 Jeans ever again because my butt moved over to where my formally trim  stomach used too be .

Then I started looking at select Celebrities and Rock Stars with Millions of bucks  and I have noticed even with all of that going on folks who have it all have a hard time keeping all together ..
Then I say to myself What Chance Do I have  ?
How am I ever gonna meet a hot female Bass player looking like this

Starise

I can't see us not doing what we like to do though....one way or the other. Good luck on your recovery!

Amen Brother  may the forces of music be with you always .

When the muse isn't happening, getting away from all things music related can be a great help.
Kinda recharges the creative batteries...

I certainly  agree with you there on that one Jim .
