Highway Star collab. Bad Mix all Fixed..

This is the somewhat final version of Highway Star. The Classic Deep Purple song from Machine head.
Pluto sings the last verse and I am singing others, pluto will be singing the third verse once I recieve it from him.Brian (bdfutch)
plays guitar along with me and takes the high harmony in the lead solo. Awesome job Brian.
(pluto you sang the 1st and second verses in the 3rd and 4th the words are different. I will send them if you need.)
Still waiting for mwalter to send his vocals and will repost then. This is the preliminary version though. The organ solo was a riot to play. Almost as fun as the guitar leads....

What do you think?Highway Star

Thanks fellas....
Mwalter...lets gooooooooooooo

Ok, i agree, the music seems somewhat distorted. The
vocals sound good though. Your vocals sound good Mark.
As for mine, sounds good to me. This is a fun project and I, and
I'm sure others, appreciate you putting the time and effort into it. It is
great practice and a challenge for all who contributed I'm sure.
I like the harmony lead but needs to be tweaked.

I will get you the correct vocals for the 3rd and 4rth verses as
    requested either tonight or tommw.

Final analysis - Make the neccessary adjustments/tweaks in
the music and that should correct the problem. I won't offer mixing
advice due to the lack of experience I have. I will however point out
that the guitars sound somewhat thin at times and there is a
distortin that has to be addressed. (Where's Chaz and the rest of
the pros when you need them?.... lol). You are also in a new place,
living situation etc which might have some effect on how comfortable
    you are recording etc.

Anyway, I'll be looking forward to the updated version and
    I'll get you those vocals.

Also Mark, just listened again and it seems the timing
of my vocals is not totally in sync with the music at
times. Just thought I'd mention it. If you wanna fix it
cool, if not no big deal, and they could use a touch more
    high end.

Great project, great fun, great challenge.

Mark... might not be able to get you those vocals til tommw
or the middle of the week due to some prior committments.
I have a bunch of takes so have to go back and listen to
find the correct one or may even have to re-sing the correct
    vocal line.

Feel free to use what you have so far, a few different words
won't throw it off that much eh...lol, or i can re-send... let me
know. I'm looking forward to me doing the 3rd verse too
    now that you mentioned it.

Sounds a lot better. Something happened to the bass
"lead in" at 0:11. Your vocals blow my vocals away.
Timing is still off on my vocals though, don't know why
cause it was in sync with the very first version.
That version is up on my site.

After listening, I feel that my out of sync vocals throws
the song off and probably should be taken out.
I don't want to leave my vocals in there the way they
are... out of sync. Did you re-do the drums or something
that may have offset the timing a bit? Just curious. Or
maybe my computer is not the exact same timing of your
computer. I don't know, you got me. But it was in time
    when i sang it.

Bdfutch did an excellent job on the harmony leads.
Anyway great job, it was an interesting project and
excellent job on all your parts Mark.

Let me know if you want the correct vocals. All you
have to do is email me a copy without vocals in the 3rd and
4rth verses and i'll mix my vocals in.... save you some time.
I would like to get my part right. And i have a better set.

Sure no problem but I dont know how or where you say the timing is off....I mean listen to the part where you sing it differently than the song goes where the chords walk down from F to D chromatically. It is in time. I just listened again and I dont know where you are off...But anyway I sure want you happy. I do believe you can get the vocal bits better though so I am happy to send the tune to you...actually I will put a link to it elsewhere for you to download. I have an ftp spot I can put it....I will email you the details of the ftp spot....

    Mark,

this is overprocessed. You hear it best at the cymbals.
Hihat at 2:59 and 3:04 is too loud.
Plutos vocals are a bit early.

Sounds good to me although it sounds like somethings breaking up a bit in the topend. Might have someting to do with the mp3 compression though.

I'd like to hear you cover "Rock-n'Roll Hootchie Coo", seems to me that would fit your voice perfectly.

Mark.... sounds good about emailing the track. Simply
email the track without the 3rd and 4rth verses. I'll do
my part and then we'll be done with it. I guess i go
for "close to perfection" when it comes to my vocals. I don't
even like the way I phrased some words. Tried to purposely
give it a little east coast accent but i don't think it worked...lol.

Maybe it was me on the timing i don't know but the main
thing is to correct it to finish the project you started. If you
listen to the version on my site the vocal timing is exact.
Maybe i sent you the wrong set of vocals. Good job on
mixing them though, I'm ok with the tone. Again this is a
project and doesn't have to be perfect, but it should be close
    to perfect.

My philosophy is if anyone does a project they
should stay at it until it's right. If you do a project like this
you drill each other until it's right.

For the amount of time you've been doing this, recording
mixing etc ( i think you said 2 yrs) you are doing a
great job. A lot of your stuff does sound pro. I'm hoping
we can do more of these collabs because i need the
vocal practice. All you have to do is put an instrumental
up and i can mix my vocals in. As for whether people are
sick of this topic/thread or not, I don't think people are sick
of it, I just think there are other topics that are more of an
interest to them than a non completed project. They'll
probably check in when they know it's done. If not no big
deal. I'm not out to impress anyone. I'm doing this
for the vocal practice and mixing practice. If people like it
great, if not that's ok too, they have a mouse to click on
another topic. I look at it as a project for pros and semi
pros. I've recorded many albums, videos, did tv and radio
shows, played tons of live gigs and now want to work on
my vocals, writing, recording and mixing. So this forum
is a good place for me to pick up some points etc.

This forum is an eternal school for anyone that wants it.
Even if someone never posts they can learn from just
    reading posts.

Also, just cause a lot of people didn't respond to this thread,
don't let that discourage you from doing more of these
collab projects. It's a good thing, beneficial to all who want
to give it a shot. I put up one (a collab idea) and haven't
gotten one response but i won't let that discourage me
    from participating in others.

You interested in throwing up an occassional
instrumental cover once in a while so i can add
my vocals to it, and for anyone else who wants
to collab with it? You don't have to do anything
except upload the instrumental. I'll add my
    vocals and mix them in.

Ok, that's it for now. I'm on my way to a function
now, won't be back til late. I'll watch for the H-Star
mp3 in my mail. Be sure your vocals are in the 1st
and 2nd verses or mwalters or whoever. Please send
the best quality mix you have. Thx.

    Hey Pluto,
I sure appreciate your post buddy! I think however my actual intent got lost in my lack of finess in wording things. I am not going to give up on this untill we are all happy. That you can be sure of.
As far as people being sick of the tune/thread, I simply meant this is seeming to drag on because I post what I think is a nearly completed version only to have something Major wrong with it. Either the mix, the tracks, whatever. Thats all I meant. Just that I need to get this right at some time soon.

Hey pluto sure thing on any tune you want. What do you like? Whats your prefrence at the moment that you would get some benefit from vocally? Hard Rock, Classic Rock? Blues?
More smith? Ted Nugent? Something from cat scratch fever...like "Live it up" or workin' hard playin' hard? Maybe some progressive stuff?
Some Bad Company? KISS? You name it....Hendrix? Little Wing maybe? Southern Rock? Molly Hatchett?
    Let me know...
I think Bad Co would be a good one for you....How about "Ready for love" or the song "Bad Co"?

    Thanks Pickerman...Thats quite a compliment.
In regard to the trivia...That WAS Rick Derribger playing guitar on both Free ride as well as Frankenstein! So the gold star goes to our friend in Florida Zepo1a. Congrats you silly freak.....However there is some rumblings about a bad call from the panel. You see our floridian said the right name but then again, he is a Witch Doctor and as everyone knows, they LOVE albinos!

stuff. Lets see.... could you name off more that
you have completed and ready to go? Don't want you
to have to do any extra work recording.... unless you want to.
Always thought about covering "Birthday" by the Beatles,
a very challenging tune for vocals. Changed my mind on
Highway Star... decided I'll just leave as is. It was great
practice. I know I could've got it better and yes I'm
contradicting what i said in my other post, but just wanna
move on. But i may re-do the vocals on the first version
    up on my site.

I'm ready for another cover though so fill me in
on more of what you have. Thx
