2018.07 - Change Audio Format issue (solved)

Hi, changing project audio format doesn't work. I can't change from 24 to 16 bit or from 16 to 24 bit.
My interface komplete audio 6 from native instruments.

Could someone test it?
Thanks

Are you changing the format of your interface prior to changing the format in CbB

My interface settings are ASIO and 24 bit. And works.
When i create a new project with 24-bit and try to change the audio format to 16-bit nothing happens.
    The project is still 24-bit.
I checked this behavior in SONAR Platinum (latest version) the same result.

Please check it on your machine. Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge if you record in 24 Bit then the files are stored as 24 bit, to get them down to 16 bit you need to export them as 16 bit files.  CbB/SONAR uses 32 floating point (64bit if set) internally.

    HI:)

If you change the bitrate does mean it is changed for the "next" project. the running project stays as it is! Makes sense.....

Change audio format changes the bit depth of the clips not the project. I just tested the function and it appears to work OK. To see the effect on the clips look in Project > Audio Files....

Bit depth is not a per-project setting. Unlike sample rate which must be the same for all clips in a project, clips may be at different depths in the same project.

The bit depth shown in the transport module is from the global setting "Record bit Depth" in Preferences > File > Audio Data. This may be changed at any time and effects how audio will be recorded in the future in all projects.

Ok Scook, now everything is clear.
Change audio format means change the bit depth of the audio clips
but the project bit depth still remains at the creating point, it can't change.

    Thank you all.

There is no such thing as a "project bit depth"

There is a global setting called "Record Bit Depth" in Preferences > File > Audio Data. "Record Bit Depth" is not stored in the project.

The "Record Bit Depth" may be changed at any time and affects all future audio recordings.

In fact, sample rate is not stored in the project either. Here is how the sample rate and bit depth shown in the Transport Module are determined:
    •  If there is audio already recorded in the project, the sample rate is set by reading the header of the first audio clip.
    • If there are no audio clips in the project, the sample rate is read from "Sample Rate" in Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings.
    • The bit depth is always read from "Record Bit Depth" in Preferences > File > Audio Data.

As a rule, "Record Bit Depth" should be set the same as the "Audio Driver Bit Depth" in Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings. Not sure what the motivation is for "Change Audio Format..." is or why one would change all clips in a project to 16bit.
