Another silly newbie question - VST2 vs VST3

Hello Cakewalk people!  Thank you for your patience with my inexperience.  I noticed that most of  the plugins I have offer both a VST2 and VST3 version.  In general, should I be choosing the 2 or the 3?  I see a bunch of them showing up twice when adding a plugin to a track.

Thank you for your  advice!

Cheers
