A few problems - HELP?
Ok, I'm using the new free version as a continuation from Sonar which I used before and it's been very good for mixing and mastering tracks where I have recorded the audio elsewhere and imported it (from a Roland digital MTR).
However, I am trying to use the integrated software instruments both as additional audio tracks and to create loops. I am having the following problems:
1. SI-Drums: using this to do some drum overdubs, by using the computer keyboard virtual controller. Everything sounds in time when I play it. In fact I am playing fills and cymbals as an overdub slightly behind the beat. Yet on playback the overdubs are slightly ahead of the beat. Is there a setting either in the project or in the drum synth itself I am missing which need to be altered? It's incredibly frustrating.
2. Audiosnap/timing: I have lots of existing drum tracks recorded as audio tracks, not midi, which were programmed into an old Oberheim drum machine. Is it possible for me to use these to create timing which will apply to other tracks - e.g. if I use the SI-Drums or the SI-Bass on new midi or audio tracks can this is snapped to a timing grid I have created?
I am generally finding it impossible to use these functions -I find them unintuitive and I can't find anything of help which is in digestible idiots' English on youtube or anywhere else!
3. Matrix: this seems to work ok using pre-loaded midi loops, but I am at the end of my tether in trying to use my own loops created in Cakewalk. I have loads of audio drum machine patterns and bass loops which I have recorded with my own fair hands which I would like to use. I just cannot get the Matrix to operate so that it: (a) loops the things i have loaded, despite the general loop everything setting (b) triggers loops in anything like the correct time.
In respect of (b) I am assuming I have not correctly created the loops so that they are in the same time and have the right information saved in them to enable the Matrix to know what time they are in and how many measures, beats etc they have and therefore when to trigger them. I cannot get anywhere near understanding how to get this to work. I would have thought in this day and age that enabling very easy loop creation and playback with integrated time information would have been high on the list for any software but again it just seems like I am banging my head on a brick wall.
EDIT: A further issue. I understand I can't create a loop solely on one track whilst others play in full, so I read a suggestion to drag the drum loop required into the matrix and let it loop there whilst the other tracks play their full length. However I split the required clip from the track and dragged/copied it into the matrix but when it plays in the matrix it is playing much faster than the original track. I simply don't understand why that would happen, again unless I am missing a setting I need to look at and adjust. It is an audio clip not a midi clip I have copied into the matrix.
Any help much appreciated.
I have an HP notebook with Windows 10 home, so not your most advanced but it is 'ok'.
