Use the Arturia Keylab MKII 61 as a controller

Hi, I've just purchased the new Arturia Keylab MKII and would like to use it as a controller for CbB/Sonar Platinum. I managed to get the main transport controllers (Play, Stop, Record, Fast forward and Fast backward) working but when I use the ACT learn function to configure the other knobs and sliders, CbB does recognise them but they behave in a weird way. I contacted Arturia support, and they asked my if Cakewalk is compatible with MCU or HUI. Does anyone know the answer to this? Also any pointers to making this work would really be appreciated.

Thanks, Herman

Cakewalk supports MCU, not sure Arturia really is (most controllers are not, independent from what they claim...).

If encoders are in endless mode, you need to Ctrl+Click in ACT MIDI instead of simple click and explain that to Sonar.

If you are seriously going to use it as a controller, you will hit limits rather fast (does not matter with ACT MIDI, Generic surface or Mackie Control). You will need to switch into AZ Controller to get more (+ AZ ACT Fix for controlling plug-ins).

Thanks for all your help and feedback. I am now starting to (literally) gain control over my Keylab MKII 61. Someone in the Cakewalk/Sonar User Group on Facebook kindly pointed me to this very useful tool at azslow.com. Setting my keyboard's DAW function to MCU and based on the basic Mack...Control template in azslow, most of the rotary knobs, sliders and buttons are now working in CbB. The only thing I will have to dive a bit more deeply into is how to get LED on the track selection buttons to light up when a track has been selected but for now, that is just a cosmetic issue ;-)

Please note that Mackie Control preset in AZ Controller is not polished and not easy for you to modify. Also, as I have already mentioned, Keylab can not imitate MCU well (it does not have all Mackie buttons).

But I guess LEDs are not working just because Keylab has not implemented Mackie handshake. Try "IQP (Mack.. Control Variation)". If you get lights, that is the case for sure.

And I am still around in case you have future questions.

@Herman --
Sorry to be a little off topic -- How are you liking the Keylab Mkii? I'm interested as the price/features are nice...but no local store carries them for me to demo. How does the keybed compare to say NI Kontrol?
Thanks!
