Oz Fox of Stryper, fell ill Saturday night while performing in Las Vegas

Official Statement from STRYPER Regarding Band Member Oz Fox  Sunday, August 12, 2018 — News began circulating this morning that Stryper's Oz Fox suffered a medical emergency on stage in Las Vegas overnight. In order to provide accurate information and dispel any rumors, the band has issued an official statement:

Our dear friend and lead-guitarist Oz Fox fell ill Saturday night while performing in Las Vegas with a side project that he sometimes plays in when not touring with Stryper. Oz suffered a seizure causing a fall on stage. After performing an MRI, doctors discovered an area of concern near his brain which they are now running a biopsy on. The doctors have instructed him not to drive or fly for 90 days. No additional information is available at this time. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers and we will communicate additional information as it becomes available.

The logistics and options for current tour dates are being discussed with the respective promoters. U.S. tour dates will play as scheduled and in anticipation of a full recovery will include Oz Fox. The upcoming Australian tour will be performed as a trio (with the blessing of Oz), and will include Michael Sweet, Robert Sweet, and Perry Richardson. For our fans in Japan, please await an announcement from the concert promoter there as to the plans for the Japan tour.

New information will first be communicated via Stryper.com and Stryper's official Facebook page.

Rocking since 1984, STRYPER is responsible for such classic '80s metal albums as Soldiers Under Command, To Hell with the Devil and In God We Trust. In fact, STRYPER is the first band to ever have two songs in MTV’s Top 10 simultaneously with their hits “Free” and “Honestly.” After a sabbatical for much of the 1990's, STRYPER returned strong in the early 21st century. Their latest album, God Damn Evil (Frontiers Music srl), was released in April. To date, the Dove Award-winning and GRAMMY-nominated band has sold over 10 million records worldwide.

Oz Fox Needs Your Help

While performing on stage in Las Vegas, on August 12th, 2018 at approximately 12:30 am Oz Fox had a seizure on stage.  He was taken to the hospital to stabilize his vitals and was given a CAT scan & MRI.  Results showed that he had 2 masses in his head, one by his ear and the other in the back of his brain. The next day he was given a spinal tap. Results stated he had no infections in his spine, so now Oz will go under testing for brain surgery biopsies.

At this time, the procedures that need to be done will not be covered on insurance. We are in the process of attempting to get him coverage, but in the meantime, his hospital bills are piling up at an enormous rate! We don't know how much the brain biopsies will cost, nor what will happen when we get the results back--whether he will need more surgery to remove any tumors or treatment plans for healing.

Oz cannot drive, fly or work for 3 months because of the potential seizures. Stryper has had to cancel some of the shows out of the country because Oz cannot perform due to his medical condition.

Anything that is given will go directly to the costs incurred to help to Oz & Annie with medical bills and supplement any income lost.

Oz has been in Stryper for over 30 years as a founding member and is in many different bands in Las Vegas—Sin City Sinners, Hart Attack & Bloodgood. God has used his joy filled soul and zest for life in so many ways with countless people! When you meet Oz--you feel like you've known him all your life! He is a wonderful son, dad, husband, musician, but most of all a faithful, reliable and a loyal friend.  He would give his shirt off his back to help anyone in need--that’s who he is. Oz truely has a heart of gold!

Oz would like to sincerely thank everyone—he is overwhelmed with the support that’s been shown so far—he didn’t know so many people would care so deeply.

If you cannot give through Go Fund Me, you can send a check to:

We love you all! Your love, support & concern has meant more than you know. We trust God and not the results! Please continue to lift Oz up in prayer for total healing & restoration~Annie (wife of Oz)

It's always impressing to see how tight-knit the music community is in Vegas and how fellow musicians reacted to the news and tried to find ways to help and support. It must be said that you cannot not like Oz - he's one of the sweetest, most down-to-earth guys I've had the chance to meet. A true gentleman.

He's a good friend of my wife so the news hit pretty hard here. He's definitely in our thoughts.
