Recording problems in platinum

Hey!

I have a problem i cant understand in sonar platinum.
When i record the metronome into sonar everything is tight and ok, but when i line in and record my guitar all audio clips kind of adjust itself to much so it appears to early then it should.

Lets say i record one track, adjust it a bit forward so its tight.
I dub that on a new track and i feel and hear i play tight both to click and other guitar..
Then when i playback its slightly off, and needs to be adjusted forward.. so i dont think its about the latancy?

And this happens in either 16 or 24 bits, with new empty project with none plugins, or full project same thing.

Any ideas?

driver settings and picture of audio clip.

Please let me know if more details are needed!

Thanks

    Hey,
I had a similar issue,  however if I left the waves forms alone they would still sound in sync. My issue was just the waveform being drawn and showing to early in the project.  I was saving my picture cache to a different drive other than my C drive, when I switched it back to my C drive the issue was resolved. Hope this helps with your issue.

If i dont move them they are as you say synced to each other, but not to the drums and click im playing to and thats the problem.
I really need it to be tight together.

Any ideas why its only my guitar gets off but if i record the sound from the metronome click into sonar its almost spot on!?
i have tryed all 4 inputs but difference.

my instrument cable isnt that long

It could be latency related and a "Manual Offset" may be needed. Tracks may be slightly ahead or behind depending on the latency reported by the driver.

NOTE: the documentation shows an image of the preference page when not running an ASIO driver. When running ASIO usually the "Use ASIO Reported Latency" option is checked and a manual offset is added or subtracted from it to get perfect alignment of audio.

Im not sure how that works but i did try that manuel offset a little.
I recorded one guitar track, i did place it where i would like it to be and compared those two and i think i got around 679 samples difference.
So i did add  that amount, didnt notice any difference when recordning a new tack,
and i did try -679 also.. same thing no difference.
There must be something i do wrong.

That is a pretty big offset. More than I would expect for a driver correction. Would have been useful to at the start. A correction that large could be the result of monitoring the recording track through the DAW with plug-in delay compensation. Bypassing FX and Live Input PDC override may be worth investigating.

The samples could be little bit different, i just wanted to see approximately and if it did some difference when adding to manual offset.
Even in a new project with no vst`s its the same problem with the guitar lined in.
The microphone ( shure 58 ) that records the sound from my speakers from the metronome in sonar is correct placed somehow.

Edit: I tried to put same vst on mircophone track as i have on guitartrack, still tight.

Also when doing the actual recordning, it looks like the waveform is correct in placed but after hitting stop it loads and its gets little bit to early.
I really have no idea how this can be its so strange.

I was having the issue with the waveform looking correct during recording and then after hitting stop the waveform would move backwards in time.  If I left them as is the audio would sound correct.  As i mentioned before I corrected this issue with where I was storing the picture cache.

I tried changing picture cache to main disc it didnt help.
I might found the problem... ME!

My emg takes up sound pretty well so i placed it close to my speaker, turned up metronome volume, recorded few bars and had a look. Its all looks good!
Even the guitar emg click was closer then the recordes shure 58 click.
Is it me that play that bad lol? I have been playing for 20 years and i thought i could hear and feel when i play tight but it seems im maybe wrong. Im really confused

I notice you've got your buffer size set at 256 samples, which is ok I guess, but I'd have thought an AVID device could go down to 64 or even 32 without playback issues.

A smaller buffer size will improve your latency.

Click on the ASIO panel button and reduce it as far as you can. If you get drop-outs, gradually increase it again.

I did lower it as far it was able, to 64.

It might have done it or atleast it looks way better now and no dropout when testing.

The reason i havnt tried to change the buffer size is that before when opening the Asio panel, the actual asio panel showed up. Thats the way it always been for me.

With my latest computor when trying to open it, it would open up the avid mbox panel instead.. i had no idea why but i found out yesterday that in the setup menu i could change the buffer size and i guess thats the "new" Asio panel for me now.

Need some more testing but i´ll  let you know how it works out!

Edit: Have to ask also, if i have Sonar installed at C drive, and store the audio files on D drive, can that make this worse or be the problem?

This is what it should do. The "ASIO panel" button opens the native ASIO panel for you audio driver, which in your case is the AVID MBox panel.

This depends on how fast your drives are, but assuming both drives are of equal speed, having your audio files on a separate drive is generally a good idea.

From what i remember from past the asio panel opened and always looked like this https://imgur.com/a/oX6pr4m
But i get now its the same but in the mbox panel.
Took my slow brain a while to figure this out.
I upgraded from Sonar 8 to Platinum, maybe it changed between these two.

I fotgot to mention that my C drive is SSD 250GB and my D drive Sata, not sure but think its 7200 RPM.

ASIO4ALL is a wrapper around standard Windows WDM drivers. If you were seeing this on your old PC, then you must have installed this separately.

You shouldn't need to use ASIO4ALL if you're audio device has a native ASIO driver, which your MBox obviously has.

Native ASIO drivers will almost always perform better than ASIO4ALL.

If he was using Asio4all that would show in the screen shot.
I found M audio drivers are not very good. At least my experience with a M audio fast track pro. It was always out of sync. Might work fine with pro tools on a MAc but was crap on a PC. Bought a Tascam and problem went away.  Just sayin'

Maybe in that case, installing ASIO4ALL is the answer!

I used a fast track pro for five years or so without a problem. I used asio driver mode. I did not manually set the offset.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I know i did install asio4all on my old system many years ago, but cant remember for my new computor, but it seems like i didnt!
I cant see that driver setting in sonar and i cant find the program in windows so i guess its a native asio driver as you said?
I had same problems with my old computor ( same mbox ) and it had as i said asio4all so i dont think that is the problem.

I tried to record some more today and it seems like its way better now after i lowered the sample rate to 64.
Who could have known that it would help in my case when the lip was to early and not to late.

Thank you all very much for all help!
