In Search of the Elusive Perfect Take- Original

This is epic so if you don't like songs that are over 6 minutes be warned.  I really could care less if this (or any of my songs) are "hit" material.  I do this for fun.

The lyrics convey my struggles with the hobby of home recording, so I'm glad I could make this one real, for once. I also use quite a bit in this song instrumentally including both grand and upright piano, fake sounding string ensembles and a lead vocal line with "radio" sound combined with a vocalsynth patch I created I call "Popeye".  I hope you don't hate it too much.

I am ok with long songs.  This reminds me of "I am the walrus" and the ending a bit of "a day in my life" by the Beatles.  Instruments sounds nice and clean.

Thanks.  "Walrus" is one of my favorite Beatle songs.  I wish could've held the last chord as long as they did.

Great stuff John - really enjoyed this.
The comparison to that bloke from Wings' previous band is obvious but you still made it your own.
    I really like Popeye

I struggle with singing too, but I'm getting better, so I keep at it.

I thought the music was quite good actually, especially the keys and bass. (If that bass was played from a keyboard, my hat's off to you.) You're a very fine piano player.

@Wayfarer-I'm not playing the piano.  It's EZ Keys, but thanks!

    Now that was different....

But I liked it.   Wasn't sure about the 6+ minutes but it actually went by quick enough.    The strings help make it Beatle-ish for me, though at times the arrangement also reminded me just a little of Extreme's "Three Sides To Every Story", which itself had a fairly strong Beatles influence in spots.

Many times when I was in the planning stages of a song, I'll look at the structure I want for it and when I lay it all out I'm shocked when I find that it's gone on for 5 or 6 minutes or more.  I really don't know how that happens.  But I assure you that I don't say to myself "I think I'll make this song ridiculously long".  In fact, I do my best to convey what I want to get into the song in as little time as possible.  It just turns out that way, but as I said above, I do this for fun.  I have a few songs where I actually did a "razor edit" with Audacity and managed to cut about a minute off, but I did that just to see how well I could edit that way.

Anyway, thanks stevec, for taking the time to sit through it and comment.
