Looking For a Heart in Las Vegas

This is a tacky little tune I came up with a while back.

Maybe it's just me after mixing al day but the vocals seem "hidden" and maybe too thick in the low mids.

Quicky tune though. I like it.

Hey Mr. BG, it is obvious that you have great songwriting skills.  You have nice little breaks, stops, and changes all over this one.

That lead guitar is great, well thought out and not just a filler, and then at 3:06 you really mix it up, and then at 3:30 more cool licks

You presented a demo of your skills and it would be cool to hear a remix where the vocals were a tad bit more prominent, as the prominent Bapu mentioned earlier.  I think you left your heart in Las Vegas, but I can't really hear if you left anything else.  Did you get the medallion?

But no one can doubt your guitar and arrangement on this one.

I agree with Bapu that the vocals need some clarity. Actually, I would bring up the high end overall a little.

    Nice solo man.

    Bill,
Thanks for the props on the GTR. The arrangement is entirely by the guys I was playing with. They went for a harmonized twin lead GTR thing that reminded me of Blue Oyster Cult, or something like that.
I love the mesh of the rythm GTR part- Mudcat sounds like he is channeling Keith Richards.
    Cheers,
    Bert

    I like it!

I think that Cure-ish synth part in the chorus needs to be panned or dropped in volume, or actually, just nuked altogether. The vocals aren't currently clear enough as it is, so you might weed out that synth UFO hovering around making it harder to hear the vocals. Keep it during the intro and such, but tuck it away during the singing? Just an idea.

Then EQ the vocals brighter and see what you got??? I dunno. Because I can't really hear the vocals all the time, I cant "get" the song and offer ideas . . . but it's clear from the instrumentation, the guitar chops, and the arrangement choices that something really good is going on here.

Panning? towards the end, you have "spoken word guy making wisecracky comments" and "guitar lead" both panned left in the same spot. Correct? I dunno, maybe I'm not hearing things correctly, wouldn't be the first time!

SECOND LISTEN: I'm getting it more this time! I would look at your bgv's that are up above the lead vocal. I don't suppose Melodyne or microshift-style pitch stuff might help the bgv's match the lead a little more? The lead vocal works for me.

OK, Bert, sorry for going off - one thing for sure, bless you for writing in a good original style, this piece is super inventive and pretty groovy. Lyrics have some excellent touches to be sure. Long live the quirk!

    cheers,
    -Tom
