SONG: Obfuscation
Hi, I've got a new song out. It's called "Obfuscation" - you can check it out here: https://www.soundclick.co...er.cfm?songID=13780140It features the usual suspects: Superior Drums MODO Bass and Blue3 Hammond LittleOne synth and the real Strat and Tele ;-) It's in 6/8 with a little tomfoolery going on... All comments/suggestions welcome! ;-) Don't forget - CDs (including my newest one "Pull the Other One") are also available at https://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/JohnBranerand all the normal streaming services.

Weird little tune. Cool sounds and mood, and love that drum track, that was nice. It all sounded good and pro from where I'm sitting. Kind of reminded me of some Mars Volta here and there.

drums are really well thought out and sound great. I liked the thin canvas as all the elements were especially prominent. You have a talent for melody,

msmcleod and eph221 - thanks a lot for listening and for your comments. I started the drum parts with some grooves from Toontrack - but I edited them a lot ;-) (yes - Superior 3 sounds great!)

Nicely recorded and enjoyed listening to something that was in 4/4 for a change. Kept my attention till the end as well - good one.

Ya, I agree the drums are terrific but you bring in a lot of instrumentation and changes to create a nice number with an interesting jazzy feel and a very definitive ending. Nice one John!!!

Mix worked well here, the drums did add some other interest, thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I liked that... Borderline prog with a nice rock edge. Good stuff. The drums do sound really good, not just the audio itself but all of the ghost hits and nuances give a very live feel. Organ blends really well too.

Jeeze the thing that leaps out is the drums. Really live, really busy, really good! Maybe just a little tape sim on the cymbals? Might blend the highs in a bit better. The snare is just awesome. Whoever played or programmed these drums is waaaay good at it. Guitars are spot on. That said, perhaps because of the drums pattering all over the place, I found it hard to hold the groove or the thread of the song. Could probably do with less drum flash, brilliant though they are. Did a drummer arrange and mix this? :) just a view from someone to whom pots and pans produce mixing anxiety. -Tom

Hi Tom, Thanks a lot for listening and for the comments. The drums are from Superior Drummer 3 and I started with some drum "grooves", which are MIDI files played by actual drummers. I always edit these a lot to make them fit the song exactly - but they start out as superior "grooves" ;-)

The guitar tones you use remind me of Neil Young. They would never work for me, but they somehow work quite well for you. I thought the organ was a nice touch too. Nice tune. Cheers, Bill
