Curious? Cannot open any midi files?

So new build and install. win 10 Pro. 
Not done but curious. I get fatal errors if I try to open any midi files. Is it because I have no audio or midi device designated or hooked up yet?
 
Been so long since I did an actual new install. Sonar Plat I mean. Latest splat build.

    MIDI files should open automatically with TTS-1 as the assigned GM virtual instrument if you have no MIDI outputs assigned.

    DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...

    Is the sound chip on the motherboard enabled? Trying to open a file without an audio device available to the program would be a problem.

    Thanks guys. I had an issue trying to find the ac adapter for my Roland Octa-capture, but found it this morning.
    I'll give that a go and hope that,s it. I miss my echo Layla 3G...I know, old stuff, but it sure worked great in my situation..............

    OK So once I installed the Octa Capture drivers all is OK. But I sure have my work cut out for me. The Octa Capture, like I said was only used for a few hours (2?) and packed away years ago. It seems fine on win 10 Pro. Looks very different iirc, baut many things do in W10P, for me anyway.
     
    I am totally confused and will need to find some good tutorials for this thing because it is somewhat confusing. My echoLAyla 3G and M audio stuff before that were pretty straight forward. This isn't, well not at first glance.
     
    I will say auto sense feature is very cool. OK , a new road. I just don't want to spend all my time learning a new AI and not playing. I am not a spring chicken.............
