trouble migrating old songs to new install

well, kind of..i was running win 7 sonar 8 and have now setup a new ssd
with win 10 and sonar platinum..i have just spent the whole week installing all my various plugins
note..all the same plugins on both installations: yet when i open a song created on the win 7 install
on m my new win 10 install it say plugins are missing...BUT they are not .
they are there and i can call them up no problem...so it seems to me that
win 10 has but some of the plugin files in different places and sonar cant find them.
.any body had this happen to them...solution ?
very frutrating   Thanks

Make sure your VST paths are properly setup in Preferences. Some of your old projects may have used 32bit versions of your plugs so make sure you have those installed too and the path setup in prefs.

Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

Are the VST Paths defined in Sonar Platinum exactly as they were in sonar 8?

Is it possible that you also switched from 32- to 64-bit OS and/or 32- to 64-bit Cakewalk and/or 32- to 64-bit plugs when you migrated? If so, there are some combos that would cause "not found" issues.

I think most of us have gone through the same thing when we migrated, either to a new computer or from SONAR to Cakewalk. Often, when you're putting a new system together you'll be motivated to better-organize the new setup. Consequently, plugins might end up in a different folder or sample libraries on a different drive. These will result in missing-plugin messages, failures to load libraries or lost configurations.

The missing-plugin issues are mostly easy to resolve. Pull up a project and make note of which plugins it couldn't find, then close the project without saving. Manually locate each missing plugin and add its path to the VST scan search path list. If the plugin is truly gone, you may have to re-install it.

Last time I migrated to a new system it was because my computer had been stolen. That was a mess, and some things just had to be given up. The time before that, though, I was able to have both the old and new systems running side-by-side and networked, and that made the transition much easier.

For example, many effects and instruments were unable to restore their project settings. So I went back to the old machine and saved all my Ozone settings and Kontakt instruments as presets (named for the project they were used in), transferred those presets to the new box, and referenced them in the moved projects.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

That should not matter too much. The actual paths don't need to be the same in every installation. VST Plugins are identified by a unique ID number. Provided that the appropriate paths are set to scan in Plugin Manager, it should work.

SonarPlatinum(22.11.0.111)|Mixbus32C(4.3.19)|DigitalPerformer(9.5.1)|Reaper(5.77)
FractalDesign:DefineR5|i7-6850k@4.1GHz|16GB@2666MHz-DDR4|MSI:GamingProCarbonX99a|Matrox:M9148(x2)|UAD2solo(6.5.2)|W7Ult-x64-SP1
Audient:iD22+ASP800|KRK:VXT6|+various-outboard-gear|+guitars&basses, etc.
